The Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Sleeping Pad is an extreme weather air mattress for alpine and mountaineering adventures. This 4 season pad has an R-value of 6.9 and provides a cushy 2.5" thickness to rest upon. Sleep will come faster if you're more comfortable and the thickness combined with reflective ThermaCapture and a Triangular Core Matrix, you'll be warm as well as off the cold ground. The 15 ounce pad packs down to the size of a water bottle so you can almost forget about it when you're on the move. Last but not least, the innovative WingLock valve will increase air flow for a fast inflate and deflate, plus the wings toggle for one-way inflation (less lung power wasted).

NeoAir XTherm Max - great quality, so noisy, abandoned itHaving had two Thermarest mats for over 20 years and the great doubling straps, I didn't hesitate to buy the NeoAir Max when I geared up for solo wild camping. An excellent product for keeping me warm, but a very noisy fabric for sleeping on. Every time I turn, or even slightly adjust my position, the sound wakes me and anyone else in the tent. My wife tried it and won't use it again. After just a couple of trips with it, I now leave it at home and use the old faithful original Thermarest. Much more bulky and it doesn't have the R Value, but at least I get an undisturbed night's sleep. They're not cheap and for me a waste of money. Try before you buy.

Totally awesomeI and three of my Aussie mates have just returned from 4 weeks on South Georgia Island. We were privileged to obtain permission to circumnavigate this remote island in the South Atlantic by sea kayak. 2 years of preparation went into the trip and we decided on the NeoairX-Therm mat. We made camp each night on some of the rockiest harsh terrain that we have ever camped on. We were buffeted by 50 knot wind, sometimes freezing temperatures..... and I have never slept so well. This mat is truly awesome. it packs down so small that we carried it in our carry on luggage and slept in airports in the Falklands and Punta Arenas without a care. Thanks Cascade Designs!!!

Light weight and durable!Bought this sleeping pad about 2 years ago. The weight and durability of this pad are amazing! The cost is high, but worth every penny. I have used this sleeping pad on 5 separate backpacking trips in the past 2 years that lasted between 3 to 7 days. Each trip had different weather conditions between summer, spring and fall seasons. I was worried that the pad would be too warm in the summer trips. I had no issues with over heating in the summer nights and it works great on the colder nights! I am 6'-0" tall and about 185 lbs. The regular size fit me well, even though I tend to sleep on my side. I would recommend anyone taller or larger than me go with the larger size.

Warm and Compact!I purchased the regular size pad hoping to save a few inches from the longer version and it fits perfect for my slender 6'2" body (My entire body fits with a couple inches to spare). I was attracted to this product based on its packed size (Easily 6" tall by 4" wide). I have used the pad during cool nights and was glad to have the extra warmth from the thermal material. The pads width is thin so your arms may hang over a bit; this wasn't a huge concern because I tend to be a side sleeper. For the side sleeper the pad was plenty thick (about 2 1/2") to keep you supported and comfortable. The pad comes with two stuff sacks; one that is used to inflate the pad (I also use it as a pillow), and the other is a small sack that everything packs into.

Great (but we need wider elbow space)The best mattress available, but Thermarest should offer more dimensions. Men and women, tall and short have roughly the same shoulder-hip (not waist) width ratio. But Thermarest forgot that we all have elbows. For the vast majority of people who sleep on their back, the XTherm is TOO LONG and NOT WIDE enough. Average 70" tall men: 10" head, 20" shoulders, 25" elbows, 20" waist, 15" knees, 10" feet. The average woman is 64" tall. There is more diversity in widths than height. The average (regular) mattress should be 25"x70" (or much shorter cuz we can use pillows or put our feet up on our backpack). Anyway, all mattress producers have forgotten that we have elbows. Until they remember, this is the warmest, lightest one available.

Deflates slowly but surelyWhen I first tested the pad in my living room I was ecstatic, but the moment I tried it for a full night I found myself laying on an almost entirely deflated pad by morning. This has happened every single time I have used the pad, staring with the very first use. I have tried using a pump, the stuff sack, and my breath and all result in the same problem. It is no longer usable and no longer covered under warranty (I do not know why I waited and kept giving it another chance thinking the new conditions would provide a new result). Not a pad that can reliably be taken on a trip.

Would love a wide, regular NeoAir XThermI really like the Therm A Rest pads. I have been waiting for the NeoAir XTherm to come out in a wide, regular. Women tend to be shorter than men, sleep colder, need lighter gear and in my case, tend to be wider in the mid section. The wide only comes in the long version which just adds unnecessary weight for me. It would be great if this pad came in a size geared more toward women, regular and wide. Or even short and wide. Hopeful!

Best Backpacking Pad Out There! As a big guy (6'5", 270), I'm very happy with the performance of my NeoAir XTherm Max Long. Is it the most comfortable of sleep I've ever had? No. Is it better than anything else I've tried in the backcountry? Definitely! For something as packable and lightweight as this pad, the performance is outstanding. I still awake with a bit of soreness at some pressure points, but far less than anything else I've tried and after a bit of a morning warmup, I'm more eager to attack the day than I ever have been before. I'm very happy with my decision to go with the Max Long as I have no problems staying on the pad and it fits someone of my frame.
