What happened to Altra :(I got these as a gift and having had 3 pairs of lone Peak 4s previously and loving them I must say these are a disappointment. When you wear shoes with a wide toe box your toes get used to being able to splay and they stay that way making it very hard to go back to regular "foot coffin" shoes without It being really painful or suffering numbness and discomfort. That what is happening with these shoes. I don't know reasoning behind this narrowing of the toe box but if it's the new Altra standard I'll have to switch brands. Very disappointing. It's nice to see the shoe getting sturdier which is why I gave 1 star but beyond that they are not Altra's I fell in love with.

Need to stop marketing these as waterproofThis is my second pair. The first stopped being waterproof because the outside material cracked in several places and began to peel away. Altra graciously sen me a second pair. In the interim the shoe had been slightly redesigned and was a lot easier to put on and take off because the top two lace loops had been replaced with hooks, so easy to pull the opening wider, for getting your foot in, and easier to quickly unlace. But I just got back from a long walk in snowy woods, maybe the first time in the year since I've had them that I've really challenged the waterproof quality, and my socks are quite soaked. You really can't call these waterproof.

Love all but toe boxLove most all my Altras. These are a good improvement from the RSM. They have less seems to come apart at. Added toe protection is nice. They so far have handle water a little better. They are chilly on a frosty day but after 3 miles that disappears. I do 80 miles a week so they will be well tested in a month( which is when my RSM came apart everywhere). But they are still narrower at the toe box than my street Altras. Would love to see a wider box or a wide option as I have not and could use it. Feels a little cramped when my weight is on one foot. But all in all they are headed in a good direction with the trail line. Keep it up and ALTRA if you need a beta tester let me know.

Despite its name, it's not water proof for longLoved my previous Lone Peak trail runners, so for an upcoming hiking trip into cold/wet climates, I decided to try the Lone Peak All-WTHR. To break them in, I hiked in them a few times prior to the trip and loved how comfortable they were. Unfortunately, the first time I stepped into a puddle on the trip, my feet got wet :-( The boot seems to have a design flaw by which the protective outer layer of the boot rubs through the softer inner layer right where the boot bends at the big toe when taking a step. After only a few hikes, the rubbing causes the waterproof layer to fail there.

Altra lover disappointed from
Crunching noise when they flexI'll start by saying that these are more comfortable than most heavy boots but Altra definitely missed the boat on maintaining the wide toe box that made them so popular. The toe box are wider than most but they definitely taper inward at the big toe. The biggest complaint I have is the awful crunching cheap, loud plasticy sound when I walk! It is the most bizarre and liud sound I've ever heard a shoe make. I'll upload a video. That is the shoe making the sound. Crazy. I'm going to wear them around the house for a couple hours to see if it goes away but I doubt it. The material they used for the outer is a weird semi rigid mostly flexible plastic that's just noisey!

Leap frogs over prior RSM models. Getting close to ideal.More support, more waterproof, much better looking, more fun, way better laces, and still amazingly light weight. Only more time and use will tell if Altra meaningfully improved durability, a notable and annoying shortcoming of prior iterations. So far, I've logged a couple hundred miles, mostly in urban settings but also on the trail, in the snow and slush and ice. Still looking great and holding shape and "style." As others have noted, deletion of traditional gaiter trap was a poor decision in my opinion. I hope Altra brings it back. Congratulations Altra on what so far is an excellent mid-height, super light hiking and walking boot.

Totally disappointed with this shoe.I have been a committed Altra buyer for more than a decade. I need a wide shoe, with the classic Altra toe box. Not sure what the mindset was in greatly narrowing this version but it left my right foot numb five minutes after putting it on- I did not even get the left one out of the box. This shoe seems to run contrary to the stated mindset of wide toe box, natural running, etc. I can only conclude the decision was made to try and sell more shoes by appealing to more traditional shoe owners. Bad decision in my opinion. Any more of this and I will unfortunately be searching for a new shoe company. Don't waste your time if you have wide feet like I do and need the width that Altra has historically provided.

Too Narrow! This Lone Peak Mid is so much narrower than the previous models that there isn't enough width for my orthotics, much less for my feet. As there was barely room enough in the old Lone Peaks for me to wear thin liner socks, I had hoped the new LP Mids would be wider, to allow a nice thick stocking with cushion. So disappointed! And about cushion, these new shoes don't have even half the ankle cushioning of the previous LPs. I've worn nothing but Lone Peak Mids since Altra began making them. I believed I'd found "my shoe" and would never have to search for another brand. Why can't manufacturers understand that everyone isn't blessed with Cinderella feet?....And foot binding's illegal, even in China!
