Product Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Idea Enjoyed having a pair that I could actually run on the road to get to the trail too. Plus most trails don't really need a true trail shoe, so I thought a more durable road shoe would last well. These are not those. I have roadies that run near 1000 miles, while the side mesh here blew out and tore around 250 miles. Maybe I expect too much, but 250 miles for me is only a month or two and I really expect more for the money companies are asking. Thank said I would probably get them again, in hoping for future improvements. As these were the first venture in this direction. I would much rather have a pair that fits 90% of my runs than multiple to have to dictate to the surface.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Durability issue but works as a hybrid The bad: Like other reviewers, upper material durability is poor. Mine showed wear at 100mi and at 150 there are holes at the forefoot flex point. They are still functional, but this is really low mileage for this sort of wear. The good: Very comfortable. They live up to the claim of being a hybrid shoe. I have ran terrain from road to rugged trail in these and they worked in all conditions. On the road you don't feel the lugs and they provide decent grip on mountain trails. They stay comfortable for ultra distances as well. ALTRA: Improve the upper quality on these shoes and you will win over countless runners! 100-150miles to get holes in the upper is absolutely pathetic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Favorite Shoe I purchased a pair of Outroads, and it is my new favorite shoe. I live in the city and typically have to run a mile or so until I hit the trail, and it has the perfect balance of cushion and traction for my local trails. Though this is technically a slim FootShape shoe, I still have plenty of room for my toes to move freely. However, I would go up a half size than what you typically wear in Altras. Not a negative, more so just an observation. I have been pleasantly surprised by this shoe and would recommend everyone to at least try a pair on next time you're on the hunt for a new pair of shoes. I would recommend it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Shoes built for pancake toes I'm convinced Altras's shoe designers and product testers have pancake toes. I have plenty of space up front, but the tops of my toes rub across the upper, especially on steep downhill sections. They did this with the Timp 2.5 and Timp 4, too. I only gave these ones a shot because they were given to me by my employer to test out. I wouldn't spend money on something that feels so tight in the store, and that's why I have bought a pair of Altras in over a year. The shoe performs well despite the poor fit. Great in sandy washes, on frozen and thawed decomposed granite, and on bare, creek - polished rocks. I just wish it fit better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My last pair of Altra shoes - midsole doesn't last I'm not a very heavy person, weighing about 125 pounds, and I have used these only for running. Most of my running has been on dirt, which would wear down the midsole at a slower rate tan pavement or asphalt. I've put fewer than 50 miles on these and I can already feel every rock and root I step on. The outsole is in near-perfect condition, but the midsole has already broken down and no longer supports or cushions my foot as it should. This is pathetically disappointing. I sell Altra shoes at a small retailer that focuses on quality shoes and fittings, but will no longer recommend them in good conscience, as I want my customers to have a good experience in shoes that are good for their feet and last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love These shoes! This is a great shoe, but you have to know that it's not going to be that roomy Altra feel as it's a slimmer design. Although I have a slimmer foot, my normal size 10 was crunching my toes. I returned my first pair and ordered a half size up...Bam!!! Now this was the Altra comfort I know and love. Most of my runs are trails w/ short intervals on road so I'm loving the hybrid approach. I've run 150mi thus far in my Outroads and there have been zero durability issues. Right out of the box I ran a 2mi to get a feel then ran a 20mi trail race on tough terrain... they felt great! zero blisters or rubbing. For me the Outroad works great! If you have a wider foot I would not recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Shoe but Terrible Durability with No Warranty. I love this shoe. It is comfortable and cushioned just enough for its dual surface purpose. Unfortunately the materials used on the upper wear poorly, splitting at flex point of the core foot in a matter of months. Add to that the fact that Altra views this as "normal wear and tear" and you have a great shoe with poor durability and no warranty. The result makes this shoes too expensive for its short life span. As someone who has used altra shoes for the last six years, I am disappointed. I'll be looking more closely at comparable brands like Topo Athletic in the hope that they stand behind their shoes and offer a real warranty.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Order a Size UP I wanted to really love this shoe However I'm having the same problem I had with the Olympus. My toes are rubbing the top of the shoe. It feels so tight, like someone is gripping my toes Also they are almost touching the end of the toe box. Also just like the Olympus, even though these are narrow it feels like my heel is going to slip out of the shoe with every step. I have 3 pairs of Timps, 5 of the Lone Peaks, 2 Torins and 1 Paradigm and don't have these problems with those. I would love it to see this outsole on the uppers of one of those models. However as it stands I am willing to try going up a full size to see if that makes a difference, but it will probably make the heel slip worst not better. Will be returning these and waiting for them to be back in stock in a 15
