Rated 3 out of 5 by from Why oh why did you make it narrower than the 4.0?? I am down to my fourth and last pair of Torin 4.0 so I had to buy the 4.5 since the 4.0 was discontinued. I tried them on, the sole offers the exact same great feeling as their older brother, but the width is not the expected one. I am looking at the bulge made on the side of the shoe by my side of the foot underneath my pinky toe. It's clearly visible, and I am concerned this is where it will start ripping. A good thing they don't have a firmer side for toe protection because they would not have fit. I will give them the benefit of doubt of course, but I have the feeling I am not going to get the mileage I got from the 4.0 .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trusted and Reliable Altra hi a home run again. This is my fourth pair of Torins and they get better with each upgrade. I love the plush cushioning and breathable upper. I don't know what other reviewers are talking about regarding the toe box getting more constricting. The toe box is still roomy without being sloppy. It fits just the same as my Torin 4.0 pair. In fact, I ordered two sizes to make sure (because of other reviews). I didn't even need to try on the half size up because my normal size fit just great like always. And there's an added bonus to the 4.5 Torins: The laces aren't the length of a Condor's wingspan! They're just right. Thanks, Altra.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is a great shoe with one major issue This shoe felt good when I initially tried it in the store. I took it home with me and on my first run I noticed the creasing above the toebox pinching down onto base of my toes. After investigating this a bit I realized that it is coming from the overlays around the eyelet chain on the shoe. It is a hard material that does not break in. After a couple runs in these I had to return them because it was too distracting. The Torin 4 does not have this problem but I wish it had the 28mm stack that the plush does. Altra please go back to making one version of the Torin with a 28mm stack and a comfortable upper like the Torin 4 has.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most comfortable running shoes I've owned I told myself that if i could break 30 minutes for a 5k, I would reward myself with a pair of new running shoes. After some research I found Altra. Toe box width has always been a problem for me (Nike, I'm looking at you). I asked a few runners who i saw wore Altras, and got positive recommendations. So I spent the extra cash fo a pair of Torin Plushes. They are worth every penny. The toe box give my foot the room it needs, while holding my heel/ankle snugly. Feels like my toes can almost reach out and grip the road. Awesome. I've been on these for almost a year, and would absolutely recommend them to anyone with shoe width challenges. I was a New Balance runner for years, now swear by Altra.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First pair of Altras, game changer! First experience with Altra. Never ran in a zero drop previously but was intrigued after hearing rave reviews. I primarily run road (avg 65 miles/week) and was looking for a daily trainer for slower paced runs, so I bought the Torin 4.5. Total game changer. Legs feel better after long runs - these shoes are epitome of comfort. The quantic mid sole is $, feels like a tempur pedic (plush with nice energy return) and not pillowy like Hokas. Upper material very comfy/flexible, no issues running in 90 degree heat. Weight is great. These are my go to shoes for 85% or running vol. They're so comfy I also wear them walking around city. Next up is Escalante for tempo, looking forward.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glorious Long Distance Comfort, not as wide as the Torin 4 I ran almost exclusively on the Torin 4 and wore through 2 pairs. I just started on my 3rd pair and was involved in a MVA. My knee was smacked pretty hard and it made running impossible, even on a treadmill. I bought a pair of 4.5's and was running on the treadmill inside of a week. After the knee recuperated they became my daily walking shoe. 8 - 12 miles/day walking on paved pathways and they have finally worn out as well. Time for my 2nd pair. I love these shoes. Note. The toe box is not as wide as the Torin 4 and takes some time to stretch out to fit my bunion.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bummed... Painful after a few miles I just picked these up and took them out for an 8 mile run. The upper fits great and the midsole was very plush for the first few miles. Unfortunately, after about three miles I developed pain in the balls of my feet near the base of my toes. It feels like like the midsole was compressing significantly under the balls of my feet and the edge of the depression was putting pressure at the base of my toes. After my run I felt inside the shoe and could feel the depression from the ball of my foot. I was hoping these would be a nice plush option for long runs, but it looks like they'll only be used for short easy runs... or be given away. Definitely not worth the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They SQUEAK! I returned my first pair after less than 2 months due to squeaking coming from the front of the sole every time I pushed off with my forefoot. The squeak is ridiculously loud and can be heard throughout my whole 1500 sq foot office. I thought it was a defect and I've read other reviewers that experienced the same thing with these. Luckily the store I bought them from was kind enough to exchange them out as a factory defect. Less than a week later, the squeak is back! I love everything else about these shoes, but I shouldn't have to try different "hacks" like putting a paper towel in the shoe or switching the insoles to make this work.
