Great XC Race Shoe!!This is a great shoe for it's intended purpose and more than it's intended purpose. I use it for off-road tempo runs and races. I've used it in a 25K trail race down to my short and fast speed intervals. I love how light and springy they are on my feet. My agility is greatly improved jumping skipping over roots, rocks, etc. on the trail. I recently wore them on a 7.1 mile obstacle course race and they shined brilliantly! The race had 5 water crossings and the mesh upper allowed the water to completely drain leaving my felt with less water weight to tote around. I can without a doubt run faster in these shoes!! Plus they're comfortable!

Comfy, but I wish that they didn't wear out so quickly!I haven't been running very much over the past four months, but these shoes look like I completed hundreds of miles worth of running. In actuality, I ran ~40 miles on them and maybe walked another 30-40. I have used them as a transitionary shoe going from traditional drop to zero drop. In that sense they performed to standard and are quite comfortable. They are very light (which is fine by me), the sole wears out in about 80 miles of use, and the upper rips in multiple spots on both shoes. Take a look at the photos and determine if they're the right shoe for you.

Bring back a revision please! This shoe seems to have been discontinued, which is a shame because it plugs a real hole in Altra's line up. I found a pair in size 9, and thought I could get away with them if I did not wear socks, but these shoes seem to run an entire size small, so I'm going to need to return them. Otherwise, they are really promising and I'm hoping that Altra is just doing a big update and will release that in the spring. I could easily see racing anything from a mile to a marathon in them.

Very narrow and sizing is offI ordered the Vanish R because I wanted something more minimalist than the Escalante (which I've been running in for a while). Unfortunately, the Vanish R was really narrow and runs very small. As a matter of fact, I ordered two sizes just to be on the safe side. Neither of them fit right or felt comfortable (I have feet that are on the wider side). I just received the women's Solstice and am much, much happier with them. They're still more minimalist than the Escalante and offers a bit more support around the heel. The Solstice was exactly what I was looking for.

Good alternative to Vibram solesVery glad Altra offers this thin sole option. I have gotten used to running with Vibram FiveFingers shoes on the tread mill and track, but I have never been able to take them on the road or off road. Even stepping on small marble sized pebbles seemed to cause soft tissue injuries that took weeks to heal. The Vanish R's sole is thick enough to provide enough protection from small rocks, while not being so thick they get in the way of the new running form I've developed using the Vibrams. My only suggestions would be you could probably even take 1 or 2 more millimeters off to make it even better.

ExcellentGreat shoe, amazingly well cushioned considering the light weight. I'm pretty sure I'm going to use these for my next marathon. Altra, please clarify the insole situation on this shoe. From another retailer's website re: this shoe: "Important Shoe Note: Two insoles are included inside each shoe, please choose ONE to dial in your perfect fit. Flat insole: Traditional stripped down insole that you'd expect to find in a racing flat. Contoured insole: M" If I hadn't happen to notice that I would have thought I needed to send my pair back for a bigger size. The white insole is very subtlety stuck beneath the black one in the shoe, and really just looks like it's part of the shoe not to be removed.

A nice race flat option for zero-drop fansI bought these shoes for speed work and 5K-10K races. The fit is sock-like and is definitely more snug than I am used to. This is not a problem for shorter distance, but anything more than 10K and these begin to become uncomfortable. The shoe is extremely light and very fast, which is exactly what I was looking for. I haven't run into durability issues yet, but I don't have a ton of miles on the shoes yet (around 50). I wouldn't see them lasting past 150-200 miles, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Overall a solid option for fast paces and short distances. Nice job Altra.

The sizes are SO confusingI have ordered this shoe twice, in 4 different sizes , and each time I have had to return them . My daughter also ordered a pair and same thing: she had to return them. The sizes make no sense . The order slip shows the sizes I ordered , the boxes show different sizes from what I ordered. . it happened 3 times ( 2 orders from me with two sizes each time and one for my daughter) and each time i ended with shoes way too big. I am giving up buying and returning the shoes. Someone at Altra should really review this problem..
