Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a single day of ski touring We bought a couple of these packs to provide for clients while doing single day ski tours in the Alps. They are certainly lightweight and the form-fitting design allows the pack to stay close to the skier's body - preventing it from swaying back and forth. We personally like the side straps for carrying the skis in an 'A-frame' style and we found the back attachments can easily accommodate an ice axe or a single ski pole. We personally think 25 liters is an efficient size. There's ample space for the necessary gear (shovel, probe, climbing skins, an extra layer, and some food and water), but some clients seemed to think it was a bit of a tight fit. Of course, overpacking could certainly have been an issue. In the end, we feel that the Dawn Patrol 25 Packs are perfect for a single day of ski touring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Quinessential Day Pack I hope BD makes this pack forever. It is the ideal balance of features and weight. I’ve used mine for over 300 days before the shoulder strap broke... but that was because I nicked with my ski edge. Whatever, I’m buying the exact same one again. I take it day touring, overpack it and throw a sleeping bag on the outside and use for a few nights at the yurt (I have the 25L), pull a basecamp sled and use it to day tour, or wear it in the resort where it can be underpacked and cinched down, giving a nice low profile. It is THE perfect pack!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nearly Perfect Day Pack I bought this backpack because it was listed as one of the best backcountry packs on Outdoor Research and am not regretting it. It is a wonderful day trip backpack. One thing that seemed a bit strange was that the zippered pocket on the right shoulder strap where you can feed a water bladder tube through zips from the top and not the bottom. This means that the pocket has to hang open when I want access to my water bladder tube. A small thing but being able to zip the pocket nearly shut would give the pack a cleaner look.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Functional Day Pack I use this pack for a day at the resort, it'll hold a flat water bottle, and an extra clothing layer. It would also work for a short backcountry day, as it can hold the avalanche gear too, in a separate pocket. There's a separate goggle pocket up top, nice. Skis can be carried diagonally, which I've done, didn't know I was carrying anything. Fit is great, back hugging and unobtrusive. There's a built in helmet tote net which stows away. Small for longer trips where you'd need more clothing. Zips can get a bit consfusing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect bag for dawn patrols! This bag has been great for dawn patrols(I guess that's in the name). Holds all the essentials and the organization system is perfect for what I need. Separate storage for quick and easy probe and shovel. Hydration sleeve for bladder and ability to run hose to the shoulder strap is cool. I know most aren't fans of bladders for touring but it works well for me. A-frame and diagonal carrying system for skis is solid and easy to open back panel is clutch. I have taken this pack out about 20 times this season( only got it in January and have loved it each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nit-picking (attention to details/refinements) This is not intended as a product review (though I am very pleased with the pack, the construction and function) but as feedback to the product design folks. The small webbing tabs on the zipper pulls are difficult to grasp with cold fingers much less with gloved or mittened hands. Frustrating to open zippers when fingers slip off pull. So many simple alternatives are available. Probably will replace with a knotted cord, but quickest was to fold tab ends over and heat seal (melt) a knob at the ends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great day touring pack Works great for European day touring - just the right size for essentials, good ski and helmet carry systems. The sack feels light, close fitting and stable and seems well made. A small pocket on one hip belt would be nice to have, but its easy to slide a separate one onto the webbing if really needed. So many day touring packs are over spec'ed or too heavy - getting on really well with the Dawn Patrol 25 so far
