The Black Diamond Helio 105 Ski features an ultralight design developed for fast and smooth backcountry riding. The balsa flax wood core dampens vibrations and teams up with a carbon layup to make for a comfortable high-performance touring ski. With an early rise tip and traditional camber underfoot, these skis are a dream in soft powder, but the relatively soft flex makes them a versatile option for both on and off-piste skiing.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still an amazing ski ...even with the tip shape I’m still skiing the original Austrian made Helio 105 and BD has just made them better. I have never had any problem with the tips diving under. Different stroke for different folks. Personally, I like ALL white skis so they keep snow away but I understand why BD shifted to carbon fiber raw-look tip versions in the new ones because they don’t ‘chip’ like the first white tip versions. I love the very stiff forefront skis because they drive much better at high speed. Softer skis seem to bounce back at me while the BD 105’s feel like an Audi car. As far as the critique about “low profile” tip troubles it might be you are using too short skis. The 177 is perfect for me and I’m only 150 and 5’7” and the ski rips in powder AND groomers. I tried the 165 versions and they did dive a bit. If they change the higher tip would change the turn at low and high speed. Don’t do it! Keep at it BD!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Troublesome tips I bought this ski to use as my daily driver. It's light and skis exceptionally well in all conditions. My only complaint however is the low profile tip shape. It catches very easily in depressions while skinning or skiing out bumpy trails. I am inclined to try mounting the bindings further back than the "backcountry recommend" to see if it alleviates this issue. It is unfortunate however because otherwise this ski checks all the boxes for a great, lightweight, all-round touring ski. Just wish it toured better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Ski for long touring days! I been on this ski for three seasons now. I love it, it's a noodle, but skis great from crud to powder. It turns very easy in whatever conditions and is also great for the uphills. This ski is very light and allows me to do regular 6000ft+ days on it. I actually use it as a telemark ski and have a fairly heavy (1600g/pair) binding on it, but it still feels light and performs to my expectations. Sure it's not the strongest ski out there, but I'll take the cut in weight over longevity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all round ski I have 2 seasons of use on these skis now. They are great in all conditions from powder to heavier fresh snow to corn and icy conditions. The only annoying thing is the tip curvature is very low and it catches easily while skinning along icy sun cups. Hopefully future versions will add a little more curve to the tip to make it a 10/10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The One For those of you trying to decide on length: I am 6'3" 185 lbs and ski all types of terrain in the Wasatch. I owned the previous 185 cm version of this ski, as well as the Helio 95 in 185 cm. The old Helio 105's always felt a little sluggish in tight terrain and were always a pain in the butt when executing a kick turn on steep terrain. Same with the 95's, plus they don't float as well (duh). When I decided to get these, I went with 175 cm. Boy, am I happy with that decision. This is the sweet spot. They are snappy in tight trees and chutes, and surfy in chop and powder. These are not sticks for high speed groomers, but if you keep your speed in check they will deliver. Bottom line: When in doubt, think about sizing down instead of up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stoked on this Ski! Super fun ski! For a lightweight ski ideal for the uphill this little number skis variable conditions like a champ. Powder, wind crust, heavy warm glop not a problem. Number one travel ski in the quiver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight and stable I bought these for a BC trip to Greenland that fell through. I used them at Snowbird and Alta in March 2019 and was super impressed with the way they skied. They floated in powder as expected but cut through much better than I would have expect for such a light ski. They were even pretty good on the groomers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Light Skis Great skis for either Alpine Touring or skiing at your local resort. I used these all season, by far my favorite ski so far. Good width for powder, stays on top of the powder even at lower speeds. They also perform well on groomed runs. Tight edge to edge turns are no problem.
