Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light weight, nice rear drawcord in hood I have only worn the jacket in light rain so far. However, it handled light rain with ease. The PLUSSES of the jacket are MANY: lightweight, zip pockets, rear toggle and cord to cinch hood, zips fully under chin, underarm zip vents, and Velcro adjustable cuffs. Actually, the only reason I am giving it only 4 stars is because I would prefer rip stop fabric to plain nylon. I'm a woman with relatively narrow hips, so sometimes men's style fit better. In this case, the MM is slightly too straight-cut for me to layer much underneath. A very useful rain- and wind-jacket! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight, packable, but hood too big I like the jacket overall for its light weight and simplicity. I haven't had a chance to try it in the rain here in Colorado during our short and dry fall, but considering my other BD products I don't doubt that it will perform well. My only disappointment is with the hood. I personally don't like helmet-compatible hoods, because I never use for my my outdoor pursuits. I've noticed helmet compatibility as a selling point for many jackets, but without more adjustment features for the hood to accommodate for NO helmet it's more of a hassle than help. I feel that helmet-compatible hoods should only be on jackets targeted only for mountaineering and/or winter sports for which wearing helmets is standard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but hood too big. It is simple, light, and packable. I haven't used it in the rain yet, but my experience with other BD products makes me confident that it will work fine. The only thing I don't like about the jacket is the huge hood. I understand that it is helmet compatible, but I don't use a helmet for hiking or anything I can imagine doing when I would have this jacket. I personally think that helmet compatible hoods should only be marketed to and used by climbers and true mountaineers who need such functionality. Otherwise the extra roo of the hood is more of a pain than a help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gr8 jacket I got this, after trying to love the FineLine shell, entirely because it has hand pockets. My hands are a lot happier now. Other than that, the only difference between the StormLine and FineLine is the armpit zippers and velcro wrist tabs vs. elastic wristbands. The hood is well designed, able to fit over helmets but also cinch down to normal sizes without looking goofy. The material and zippers do a great job of being waterproof. Fit-wise, it's pretty slim, and the sleeves on this (and the FineLine) could definitely be shorter. To BD/other manufacturers: I really appreciate that this comes in XS because it's so hard to find things that fit me. Please make more men's XS clothing. Rated 3 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for… This is a lightweight shell that provides a medium amount of protection from the elements—don't expect, or use this jacket, as a replacement for a full-on hardshell, you'll be disappointed. In heavy rain, the fabric wets out quickly. I think it's best used where conditions are variable or when traveling fast and light in the mountains. The fit is slim, so bulky layers underneath won't work with this jacket. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, simple, streamlined jacket This is just an awesome lightweight hiking jacket. Pit zips are a must for me now on any rain jacket I buy, so I was glad to see them here. The "stretch" aspect is there, but it is not as stretchy as some eddie bauer first ascent jackets I have owned in the past. The helmet is perfect, especially for my oversized head. Wish I could've gotten a color besides gray, though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it, but not quite enough for skiing Love the jacket - great fit, great cut - but I was looking for a backcountry skiing & technical climbing shell and while this is a great lightweight rain coat for everyday use, it's not quite enough for those specific activities. Returning, but only because I have a very specific use in mind. Otherwise, love it! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, quality construction. packs small. clean lines. I do miss having a chest pocket and a way to cinch the collar around my neck if I don't want to wear the hood, but still want a tight fit around my neck without excess material up around my mouth like a weird uniform from The Fifth Element.
