The Black Diamond Men's Technician Shoe is an ultralight approach shoe for technical terrain. It's comfortable on approach and capable of high-class scrambling and light climbing duties. The knit upper offers both durability and breathability, and a to-the-toe lacing system makes it easy to dial in your fit. The narrow toe box is great for tiny edges and small cracks, and the sticky BlackLabel-Mountain rubber provides excellent feel and grip on the rock.

Product Reviews
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Runs small. Order at least a full size up. Just pulled the shoes out of the box. First impression is the shoes are well constructed with quality material. The disappointment came when I tried them on. Starting off I have a wide foot. Knowing this and after doing some research prior to ordering that suggested doing a 1/2 size up, I followed the recommendation and selected a size 10. I was initially concerned about going larger, since typically for me, going up a 1/2 size means more front/back movement. However, when I tried these shoes on, my foot barely fit in length and was still tight in the width. That said, if I had ordered a full size up, I’m sure they would have fit perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They don't feel good, they feel great! I agree with previous sentiments on sizing. I had to reorder in size 10 when I wear 9.5 in most other brands and a 42 or 9 when looking for a technical-approach-shoe fit so I can actually climb in them. The 9.5 in these was just too small. Fortunately the 10 was perfect: snug enough to edge but amply comfortable for approach hiking. The arch feels supportive and the heel cup is plenty deep so they don't slip even when toeing in hard on small footholds. Again, they feel great in the right size!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tight with solid footing Bought these right when they came out. Got a half size, maybe a full size too small when ordering. They were tight. I’m normally between a 10.5 and 11.5 in street shoes. I bought these in an 11. Couldn’t even wear them all day before my toes aches and aches. Not sure if they were so tight because length, or because the toe box is a bit short. Will definitely be buying the next .5 size up and trying again. They look rad. They feel good, and I just like them. I want to have a pair that fits correctly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Size up Took a second shipment to get it right but very happy with the purchase. I normally wear a 9.5 and when I got them it felt too tight to be comfortable at all. Returned them and moved up to a 10, so glad I did. A very tight fitting shoe on width it feels like but I’m ok with that. Definitely move up a half size minimum from your normal size and possibly a whole size if you’re looking more for a relaxed feel. So far I’m very impressed with this shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, very impressed. I’ve been looking for an approach shoe to replace my old worn out guide tennies, so I decided to give these a try. So glad I did, super comfy and you can really dial in the fit if you are on more technical terrain. I’ve scrambled up to 5.7 in these and felt very confident with the edging and good sticky rubber. I will echo others in saying the sizing is off, I usually wear a 10 and the 10.5 fits perfectly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs small I bought these and the Session Approach shoes both in the same size and the Session's fit great if not a little big but I can't wear these because they are so tight. When placed sole to sole these are a 1/4 inch shorter. They look great and I wish I could wear them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so great! I’ve now used these on a couple alpine approaches in Rocky Mountain National Park. They are amazing for scrambling and comfortable enough for hiking. I didn’t have any cramping, blisters or hot spots. Don’t expect them to be big comfy street shoes. They aren’t. They’re snug, even tight, like a mix between a climbing shoe and a trail running shoe. I probably wouldn’t wear them on a backpacking trip or something. But that isn’t what they’re for. They’re light, snug, and grippy. Pros: light, great scrambling, stylish, breathable, grippy Cons: the insole slides out when I take them off, lacing system is bomber yet annoying to deal with, Now we’ll see how well they hold up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fairly durable, but... Wanted to love these, however the mark was missed a bit. They fit great, the uppers have been durable and fairly withstood everything I threw at them. However, as someone who relies on the rubber atop rock formations in precarious stances, I can't recommend these shoes. The rubber slides even on coarse granite slab with all my weight on my feet. Not confidence inspiring. If you're looking for shoes that'll last and you're not trusting the rubber to keep you safe, they're great, but if you're relying on them to keep you firmly on rock, might be best to look elsewhere or get a resole with better rubber.
