Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough, light, well thought out and comfortable. We've literally spent months in our Mesa tent during two long bicycle trips and are so confident in this tent that just purchased another one for future trips. Our first Mesa lasted through a 12 month and 17 month bicycling trip through the mountains and back-roads of Asia and India where we depended on it almost nightly. We were comfortable, warm and dry when we had to sit out multi day storms and the tent was easy to set up in the dark with frozen hands. It handled strong winds, heavy snow, blowing rain and we experienced no broken poles, stuck zippers, torn materials or leaks. All of our gear fit under the vestibules and the double doors were key to late night trips to the bushes. We wouldn't risk take any other tent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great features but the rain fly is a mess I bought this tent several years ago but for various reasons it was not used. It was stored in a cool dry location and never opened until last month I happily got it out for a 2 night camp. It was very disappointing to find the rain fly and stuff bag were a sticky mess and the rain proof material was flaking off like snow. I then checked the BD web site and see several comments about the same problem. I'm sharing my story because it is such a nice tent if the fly and rain proofing had held up. Hopefully this problem has been addressed by now but other reviews indicated the same problem, so it's apparently not an isolated issue. Hope BD will come through and make me want to reconsider.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid tent Before moving to New England I used this tent all over the Sierra and the Southwest. Still do. Camping in the Northeast, you have to be prepared for wet conditions and it seems that I can never get through a trip without a downpour. My Mesa has never leaked a drop and is comfortable and steady in the strongest of winds. I see no reason why it could not be used for winter trips as well. It's a bit on the heavy side but that doesn't seem to bother me. Even at 66 yrs. old! No quality issues yet, no sticky fly, although I agree that the stuff sack could be an inch or two longer. I take care of my gear and expect my 5 yr. old Mesa to last me for many more years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent tent and great customer service to resolve issue The tent is "big" enough to sleep 2 men comfortably without being awkwardly cramped. The vestibule is plenty to store our bags and cooking gear, boots etc. I had an issue where the fly became sticky and a visible decomposition of something white & flaky/ I can only assume it is the material used in the seam. I was anxious about the fly loosing its waterproofing as a result of this. I contacted BD as well as the online distributor from where I bought the tent, and both parties were fast to respond. I was given clear instructions of what to do (photos etc..) and was sent a brand new fly. This could have been a batch quality issue, but with such customer service, I am happy to spend the money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Off to a great start Just received this tent as a gift a month ago and had a chance to use is once so far. Quick overnight trip but a perfect summer test. Tons of bugs, warm temperatures and a deluge of rain over night. (classic New England camping) Setup is very quick (I did it in under 5 minutes as I watched the rain head towards me from across the lake we hiked into) and held up to the severe rain we ended up getting overnight. Dry as a bone. Despite tricky temperature and humidity conditions, the tent ventilated pretty well and did not build up condensation. To get decent ventilation you really need to keep the vestibules open somewhat. Because of the design it is possible to keep the top portion of the vestibule open a bit without compromising the ability to keep your gear dry. Am sure in high wind conditions that would be less true but with high wind the need for ventilation would likely be reduced as well. I note that an earlier reviewed indicated that the tent poles we 1" longer than the stuff sack. I did not experience this issue. Like the tent very much after it's initial test run. I recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great tent, but fly became defective Loved the tent initially, but the fly became sticky and waterproofing completely stopped working during a 2 week backcountry trip. I've owned the tent past the allotted warranty, but have only used it for a handful of backpacking trips. For a piece of equipment at this price, and with proper care, I was upset at the rain fly and it's performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent all around tent I love this tent. It is one of the best all around tent out there. It's very durable. I love the 2 vestibules. It's not the lightest, but it's not the heaviest also. I have used it on backpacking trips, canoe camping, rafting trips, climbing trips and even skiing trips. When you use it during summer, fall and spring, it's big enough for 2. But when you use it in the winter, it gets cozy. The option for using only fly and footprint is a good option, when you want to shave some pounds, but it's not the best if you are in a buggy place! Overall, I find that this tent is hard to beat. I really love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, light, and waterproof I've been using this tent for 8 months now in fall, winter, and spring and I am pleased. It is easy to set up, seems wind resistant, and waterproof. In the past I've had tents bending over from wind. My main complaint is that the doors open the opposite way that the rain fly vestibule opens. That makes it a bit of a hassle to zip open and crawl into and out of. The vestibules stay dry and dew free, so it's safe to leave your boots and gear there without worry. Some water will drip inside off the fly when the doors are unzipped. I have had no issues with the rain fly material coating decomposing yet. It is lightweight and has stood up to days of straight rain while keeping everything inside dry. The interior is well ventilated and dew does not form, but I wish there was zippered material allowing adjustable airflow and ventilation for more versatility in the summer and winter. The only other feature it's missing is an easy way to peek outside to check conditions. If the arches on top of the rain fly doors were a bit stiffer, one might be able to look out through the mesh and under them without unzipping anything. The stuff sack is about 1 inch too short to fit the poles, and it would be much improved if it included compression straps sewn on. The tent and rain fly fit will inside the storage bag rolled or stuffed. The space inside is comfortable for one or two, with room for gear, and clothes, and room it sit up and dress easily. The storage pockets are the perfect size and placement for easy access in the night. Bottom line: a rock solid little tent that is comfortable, lightweight, and performs well in rain and wind, but with room for a few improvements.
