Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use two of these for work which takes me into deep forestry settings for weeks at a time, that require me to be completely self-sufficient. I keep one I only use during work and one I use when I'm setting up camp. It is more much user friendly than my previous Storm, and usable with gloves. Plenty of dimming and brightening settings to cater its use to my needs in various stages of lighting, including red light for use at night. As durable as any other BD headlamp I have owned. My favorite thing is that, due to the time I am away from power, I can carry AAA batteries in place of the rechargeable battery, and replace them as I need to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good headlamp with lithium ion battery I bought this headlamp few weeks ago and also owned the previous version of Revolt headlamp so that I can have backup headlamp for my teammates during hiking etc. The following comparison is mainly based on the previous generation Revolt headlamp. The extra 50 lumen of brightness of this new Revolt really makes things different. The beam can cast wider and longer distance at maximum brightness than the previous one. Changing to lithium battery can solve the problem which NiMH battery reliability issue. NiMH battery could not be charged by the headlamp when the charging process/discharging process goes wrong. Once I forgot to charge up the Revolt battery (NiMH battery) after a hiking trip and couldn’t be charged using the charging port of the headlamp since the battery has been overdischarged. I had to buy “cradle” type charger to solve the problem. In terms of the headlamp construction, it is rigid. The resistance of changing beam angle is greatly reduced compared with the previous generation. User interface is much more easy now due to the added small circular button next to the main button. Battery life indicator is much more straight forward. However, one thing is worse than the previous generation Revolt headlamp is that the back cover of the battery case is very difficult to open. The “hook” that used for holding the back cover in place is very rigid. Sometimes I have to a little screw driver to lift the hook. If you are going use the lamp every few days, I suggest that you just leave the lithium battery in the case. I’ve consulted the customer service department of BD about this issue. It seems that they used a different polymer for the headlamp body and that’s why the “hook” is so rigid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great headlamp with a few caveats [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Headlamp is light, compact and durable. The main beam is more focused than others I've owned. As a result it is able to illuminate further distances but the spot at full brightness is too focused and small to comfortable use when walking at night. I either use the secondary flood light or turn to a smaller brightness to compensate. Overall a very well made product that I will regularly use. It should also be noted that the owner's manual states that runtime on lithium is LOWER than using AAA batteries. Small caveat but it should be noted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best all around Headlamp I've used and abused dozens of headlamps and been caught in gnarly situations with not being able to find batteries on international trips etc. This solves that problem and cuts down on battery waste. Also definitely submerged it a few times on purpose and on accident and still running strong. I've been using this one for several months now and so far haven't run into any issues at all. Love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little light. I use this for everything from work, camping and very often for night dog walks. Takes a minute to get the button rotation down and your different intensity levels dialed in. Once you’ve done that though, use is very easy. Tap feature works amazing for switching from close area light to a distanced beam and back again with just a quick flick of the finger. Battery seems better than my previous gen version and charges quickly in the field. The only reason it’s not a 5 star is that I can already notice the band stretching and I’ve not had it that long. Easily solvable and should not detract from purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more dim AAAs This is the first rechargeable light I've owned, and after about 2 months of use, I'm sold. I used to try to milk out all of the extra charge from my old lights with regular batteries, and ended up having a really dim light most of the time. With the Revolt, I can recharge as much as I want without throwing away batteries, allowing me to actually use the full brightness of the light (which is pretty bright!). Mostly been using this for dawn patrols/dusk skiing. Plenty bright enough for skinning up, and even can work for the downhill (although maybe not at full speed - a 500+ lumen lamp is still better for that). My only complaint is that the buttons are a bit too small to easily press with gloves, but I've had that issue on every light I've ever used. Powertap function on this one eliminates that problem for swapping between bright and dim - really slick. I haven't used it on any longer trips, but when I do, the ability to carry a few extra AAAs as a backup will be really nice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Charge port does not reseal BD headlamps are the best and in an effort to cut down on battery waste I chose the rechargeable model. Charged fast, however the rubber plug/cover is very difficult to reseal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright Headlamp with Great Battery Life Was expecting something solid from Black diamond and this headlamp did not disappoint. There are three settings ( I would call them focused, spread, and red lights), and each setting has a regular and max brightness setting. On top of that, the specific brightness of each light setting can be adjusted easily by holding the main button (light goes from bright to dark and you release when you reach the brightness you want). In terms of the fit, I found it comfortable and easy to adjust and they held on tight. The ONLY downside I would say it's that it is only water resistant and does not handle temperatures below -5 C (I've tried), but Black Diamond is completely upfront about that.
