Gets the job doneThe pants are very comfortable (without items in pockets) and durable. My favorite feature being that they dry very quickly and are very lightweight. Being convertible they are great for hot days that may include bushwhacking. Also compared to other brands the price is not bad. There downfall comes to the pockets, granted I carry lots in my pockets, but when full, the pants become really tight, due to lack of stretch, around the crotch and upper leg making movement less comfortable and more constricted. Also the tiny little belt it comes with does not do much for me and it extremely difficult to remove.

Good Quality; tight fit for those with athletic buildAdventure racers and orienteers love this pant because the ripstop sheds all the thorns, thistles and all those plants that stick to most pants. I love them for this, and they dry quickly too.
However they ride a little low on the hip, the crotch is short and the thighs are a bit small. I can feel them pulling my legs when running through the woods or semi-rough open areas. I can feel them restricting my range of motion when hurdling fallen branches or tree trunks. These actions also pull the pants down, so I have to pull them up. The belt is a little thin and cuts into the skin when tightened.
Overall, a nice pant for crossing through rough terrain, but they are made for the thinner crowd; not for athletic bodies (try the relaxed fit).

Too tight in the crotchThese pants are generally awesome with the exception on two things. First, the pants are way too tight in the crotch area, it is as if they chose one place to skimp on proportionally sizing the pair of pants and that was it. The second thing is that the threading around the crotch area is pretty poor, I have worn my pants twice and the seams are starting to come undone, this just seems like poor craftsmanship. I have a friend who has the same type of pants and the same thing is also happening with his pair. This just shows me that these products aren't really built to last and are overpriced for what you do get.

Great Pants But too tightI just received these pants in the mail today. I was very impressed with the overall appearance and quality of the pants. However, they were simply way too tight in the thigh and butt area. I wear a size 34x30 in every pair of pants and jeans that I own. These pants fit ok in the waist, but the thigh and butt area were skin tight. I really hated this, because I loved everything else about the pants. I really like the fact that Columbia adds cargo pockets to the pants. I also like the fact that they incorporated a removable belt and an elastic waist. Unfortunately, I will have to return them. I'm not sure if it would do me any good to order a larger waist size. If Columbia would make these pants roomier...they would be the perfect hiking pant.

Colour Guide, Shipping, Overall ExperienceBuying experience: Bought 1st pair (fossil) at local store. Fit great 38-30. Wanted 2nd pair (grey) but store did not have my colour so ordered online. Surprise! 38-30 was too tight (go figure). Returned and ordered 40-30, perfect fit.
Colour guide: Cute names but what do they mean? Abyss is black, tusk is brown, gravel is greenish, peatmoss is green, grill is grey (beautiful), fossil is beige (classy).
Shipping & Returns: ships from Oregon. Very dependable and efficient. Price is reasonable. Returns are easy. However, if you are returning pants from say, Florida expect to pay $20 for ground shipping. Estimate other states accordiingly.
Costomer Service: Excellent. Don't hesitate to call.

3rd times the charmI just received this year’s (2012) re-designed Men's Silver Ridge Convertible Pants... XLNT
Have been buying these for the last 3 years. Last years were the worst... inside of the pockets to small.. no elastic areas on waist.. belt way to stiff.
This years are the BEST.. They changed the belt.. xlnt. They changed the pocket size, larger like the year before.. Xlnt. And re-did the elastic in the waist. XLNT. Hope they hold up well like always.
I do miss the extra right side zipper for my money.. Wish they would add it in next years re-design.
I am impressed... Columbia, you are listening to your customers. THANKS

Fits Like Skinny JeansI live in Central Florida (Oviedo-Orlando). I run daily, walk the dogs, swim daily, play basketball and football, outside archery, outside target practice, at the beach weekly, and kayak monthly.
These pants are way to tight and fit like skinny jeans. I am 6'1" and weigh 180 pounds. I normally wear a 34" waist. My thighs and rear end were screaming from the snug fit.
Returned for two sizes larger. 38" waist with 34" length fits great. I would highly recommend ordering not one(1), but two (2) sizes larger.

Awesome for hot Tennessee days!As a really big guy working in the outdoor industry, its always been difficult for me to find well fitting performance clothing. Columbia has come through every time with sizing up to 3xt and 4xt. I've had these pants for awhile now and despite being very thin breathable material, they have proven durable and tough during kayaking demo days, fishing trips, and just wandering around in the woods. The legs convert easily, and I've been able to zip them off and on with no issues. I definitely recommend!
