Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boots were more than what Boots were more than what I expected. Many reviews spoke about a rough break-in period, not the case. Mine were true to size (9.5) and fit well (I wear a 9.5 Nike, 9 Ariat, 10 cap-toe dress shoe). The leather is soft, making these boots pretty comfortable out of the box. I've worn them 7-8 times and really like the look and feel. Only downside is that they're a bit more red than expecting. However, they're starting to wear well and I believe the red will fade. I bought them for work between field and office and they're a great all around dressier boot, worth the money. Suggestion -- get a good spray on water repellent and these will hold up well!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the boots, hate the Love the boots, hate the laces. The boots look & feel better with wear. However, at first I thought I had forgotton how to tie my laces. Either they were too loose and they slipped out of the top hook or they stayed tied but were too tight and were uncomfortable. So, I finally replaced the flat black "shoe" laces with round brown "boot" laces and they were perfect. Seriously, black shoe laces on brown boots? I'm disappointed in Danner. You should be ashamed! But we still love you!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not up to standards These boots look good, but they are not up to Danner's standards. The leather is far from "premium" and it is thin. I suspect it will break down quickly. These boots are lined with an awful feeling fabric lining that just feels cheap. Completely agree with the comments about how the ankles fit, and the tongue. This is the first Danner product that I have purchased that were not Made in USA. They need a better supply chain. ** Please Danner, don't follow Filson's lead!**

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice boots. I am Very nice boots. I am generally a D, average width foot. When I first put them on I was concerned as they were too tight. After wearing them around the house for about 3 hours they were fine. Since then, they feel even better, snug but comfortable. Foot bed is good, just enough cushioning yet still firm. They are good looking and look as they appear on the site. I'm really liking these boots and am very happy I bought them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking boots. Might be Great looking boots. Might be a 5 when I get them broken in, but have only worn them a few times so far. A little tight across the top of my foot at the base of the laces, otherwise fits great, comfy to wear all day, and takes a nice shine. As noted by other reviewers, the flat laces require a tight cinching up. No issues with retention since I replaced them with round ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made this selection because i Made this selection because i thought it would be a good boot for around the office and out in the field in the same day. Love the look. Reminds me of the Dr. Martins i used to wear in high school but higher quality and better fit. I think they are going to get better looking with age as the leather looks like its taking on a character of its own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Returned. I still own a Returned. I still own a pair of Danner Go Devil boots from my days in the Army, but am disappointed with this boot. As previous reviews stated, the pattern for the boot must have been made for people with cankles. The mahogany color in the picture is not the mahogany I received. The color had almost a pink shade to it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought these to replace the Bought these to replace the prior version of Danner Jack I had (I think v. II), the sole got worn smooth and they started to squeak. Those were good, comfortable from the start. DJIII a little different story. Tried to wear from the box, the overlap at the vamp caused pain in the foot because the leather was a bit stiff. That was easily taken care of with a hot-water and hammer break in, now they are totally comfortable. I do NOT like the hooks at the top of the cuff. These are machined rather than forged and if the boot is loosely tied, the laces will slip off. Then, one time, I had the hook penetrate through the lace (due to sharp machined edges) and that was an annoying 5 minutes of bent-over yoga to diagnose and untie. I wish Danner would mount a sturdier and more aggressive Vibram sole to their dress line because I do crossover work between the office and the job site, or want to look good in a Scout uniform. The heel detail is reminiscent of loggers which I like.

HOW SHOULD MY BOOTS FIT?

Danner builds boots for their intended use. You'll find that our styles fit differently depending on how they should perform in the field.

Hiking
-Right out of the box your hiking boots should feel somewhat snug on the sides of your feet (you aren't sliding side-to-side) with a little room at the toes (you don't want your toes to touch the tip of the boot just standing on flat ground).

-Make sure when you walk your heel doesn't slide up the back of the boot substantially.

-Make sure that you aren't feeling any pinching or pain while walking around your house. If you feel pinching at your big or little toe you probably need a wider boot or perhaps a larger size.

Work
-Your work boots should match the anatomical make-up of your foot, widening slightly in the toe-box for a secure platform to stand on.

-Right out of the box you should feel comfort, cushion and support underfoot, for long days on your feet.

-You may feel that they're slightly stiff or snug right out of the box, but after a few weeks of break-in they should move easier at the flex points and conform to your foot, fitting like a glove.
