Rated 5 out of 5 by from Once they break in, it’s Once they break in, it’s a very comfortable work boot. They have nice ankle support and I can wear them all day. They are flexible and so far they can take a beating. They do well in the various environments of the Construction, maintenance, and remodeling world. Some people prefer shoes but being in the military I know the value and the work load a good boot can do for you. For me, so far they are exactly what I wanted and needed, plus they look good in action. These are my first pair of Danners, I’ve never tested in a military application, but I’ve always heard good things, and so far they are the best work boot I’ve owned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable Boots [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just purchased my fourth pair of these boots. Very comfortable, practically no break in time and pretty well constructed. There is an "although" to this story. The "although" is, which applies to all previous pairs and probably my latest, is that the the boot breaks down at the connection between the leather upper and the rubber sole at the big toe joint area. Same spot everytime. Danner was compliant to the warranty claims I made twice for replacement and stated that I could not make any more claims and that the boot would be discontinued for said reasons. Anyway, I keep buying them and they typically last more than a year which is fine for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The size was fine. My The size was fine. My issue was with the breaking in. This is not my first pair of Danner's. When I first put them on I was getting a stabbing pain around the ankles on both feet so I figured that if i just kept going they would soften up. I have worn them around the house and doing errands and the shots of pain have improved but still not gone away. All my old Danners are so comfortable that I would wear them instead of my sneakers but not these. I wanted to get the Vicious in the same size and length but these where cheaper so I went with them. Now I'm wondering if i made a mistake.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent so far The first day I wore these I couldn't believe how bad they hurt. I've worn a lot of boots from a lot of brands, and never experienced this horrible a break in. So I used a wax/cream for waterproof leather boots to soften them up and for my second day wearing them I put on extra thick hiking socks. This worked perfectly, completely different boot. They are extremely comfortable now. I've been wearing them to work even on rainy office days recently because they're so comfortable. They are absolutely waterproof, I stood in 5 inch deep water for a while the other day and never got a hint of moisture inside. They are also excellent at removing sweat. They also look great, my wife loves them on me. I'll try to remember to revisit this in a year to see about durability but so far they are excellent once broken in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely the most comfortable boot Absolutely the most comfortable boot that I've worn in years. I've struggled to find a boot that fits my foot over the last several years. The Crafter is awesome. The only shoe I've worn since I got them! Will definitely be buying another pair. Only issue I had with them was the insoles. I have a wide foot and the heel of the insoles felt like it was pinching my heel. Due to the hard plastic on the outside of the insoles. Replaced them with my own insoles. All is good! 👍

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid boot for outdoors and indoors. They discontinued the Workman (was it the gender specificity of the name?) so I went looking for another Danner boot to replace my favorite model. This boot feels a bit stiffer and possibly heavier, but it gives good protection. For the first couple of weeks they felt a bit too stiff but the minor hot spots have now gone away. The loop in the back (used to pull the boots on) is a less comfortable fabric strap instead of a leather strap. I tried a pair of Calipers, and they were comfortable, but the loop pulled off within a month, so I'm hoping these hold up. Fortunately Danner made good on their warranty and gave a refund on the Calipers. Funny thing, my foot measures as a 9.5D but I always have to go up a size and a half to 11D. Once I figured that out I've been able to consistently order Danner boots that fit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I’ve had Danner in the I’ve had Danner in the past and was usually impressed but these fell way short of those. I’ve been trying to break them in for a few weeks because the right boot seemed much tighter than the left across the top of the foot where the tongue of the boot is attached without success. The boots also make creaking sounds while walking and seem to be made cheaper than the Danners I’ve had prior to these. I don’t feel these were a good purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from more junk have worn these maybe a dozen times and the sole is already starting to come loose on the inside by big toe...the insole that comes with it is horrible, the first thing i do is toss it and put in a dr marten insole. my last pair fell apart in the same spot after 2 months, i would suggest using a stronger glue. i expect more out of an "american" made boot, or maybe that's the problem as some of it is imported. will never buy danner again!

HOW SHOULD MY BOOTS FIT?

Danner builds boots for their intended use. You'll find that our styles fit differently depending on how they should perform in the field.

Hiking
-Right out of the box your hiking boots should feel somewhat snug on the sides of your feet (you aren't sliding side-to-side) with a little room at the toes (you don't want your toes to touch the tip of the boot just standing on flat ground).

-Make sure when you walk your heel doesn't slide up the back of the boot substantially.

-Make sure that you aren't feeling any pinching or pain while walking around your house. If you feel pinching at your big or little toe you probably need a wider boot or perhaps a larger size.

Work
-Your work boots should match the anatomical make-up of your foot, widening slightly in the toe-box for a secure platform to stand on.

-Right out of the box you should feel comfort, cushion and support underfoot, for long days on your feet.

-You may feel that they're slightly stiff or snug right out of the box, but after a few weeks of break-in they should move easier at the flex points and conform to your foot, fitting like a glove.
