I wore them on a 16-day river trip, and they did not drain well, and stayed damp overnight in a hot climate, so I had to wear wet shoes the next day. The opening on the top is tight - but I have fairly large ankles. They have plenty of toe space and were reasonably comfortable when worn barefoot (great with socks though). However, they did give me blisters at the back of the heel where the opening is tight. My main issue is that they did not drain well and the insole stayed wet. They are cute though, so there's that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rachel R. from These did great on the These did great on the river! Good traction on rocks and drained well. These might run a tad small... I ordered my usual size and will be fine. If you prefer a looser fit, I'd advise a half size up. Also, make sure to have a backup shoe... there is a little break in period for the back part of the shoe. I did not get a blister but if I'd worn them longer I may have... this could also just be due to the slight smallness in size, as previously mentioned. Overall did great and so glad I purchased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Julia M. from I used these to hike I used these to hike The Narrows at Zion NP (14 miles of in-a-rocky-river hiking) and these were perfect. They had amazing traction and support. They also transitioned seamlessly to on-land trails for another canyoneering trail I did there. They were true to size and super comfortable the entire time. Plus even after being covered in red sand, they didn’t stain. They didn’t feel heavy when I was walking around in the water, and dried really quickly after. I highly recommend these shoes.

I wore them kayaking in several lakes in Washington, where I had to get out and step onto rocky shores and in mucky areas. They're snug enough around the ankle that they stay on when sinking into mud and the outsole is grippy and gave me confidence stepping on wet rocks. They're light and drain well, too. Fit was true to size. Love them!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Leslie S. from I typically wear an 8.5 I typically wear an 8.5 and these fit perfectly, but a bit too snug if you're wearing socks. While the fit works for me and the grip is great when hiking, these shoes are one big blister party on my heels. Even with bandaids on, they still really hurt and cause such discomfort on my heels. I have to learn to deal with it since Danner won't let you return worn shoes.

They are light weight, very comfortable and I can walk on the rocky part of the beach and no longer feel pain when stepping on the rocks. The traction is really good and they dry really fast. I love just being able to go from walking on the land right into the water out to the sand bars. Highly recommend them!

Don’t think you’ll be navigating any wet stones with these; I was constantly having to take them off to go barefoot so as not to fall. Had one truly embarrassing faceplant while wearing them too. Can’t really recommend unless they rework the grip on the soles.

The style is a great tan/green combo that look like hiking shoes. The only reason I gave a 4 star is the fit is nice but the stitching on the inside you can kinda feel and I’m hoping that doesn’t scratch the top of my feet too much..

HOW SHOULD MY BOOTS FIT?

Danner builds boots for their intended use. You'll find that our styles fit differently depending on how they should perform in the field.

Hiking
-Right out of the box your hiking boots should feel somewhat snug on the sides of your feet (you aren't sliding side-to-side) with a little room at the toes (you don't want your toes to touch the tip of the boot just standing on flat ground).

-Make sure when you walk your heel doesn't slide up the back of the boot substantially.

-Make sure that you aren't feeling any pinching or pain while walking around your house. If you feel pinching at your big or little toe you probably need a wider boot or perhaps a larger size.

Work
-Your work boots should match the anatomical make-up of your foot, widening slightly in the toe-box for a secure platform to stand on.

-Right out of the box you should feel comfort, cushion and support underfoot, for long days on your feet.

-You may feel that they're slightly stiff or snug right out of the box, but after a few weeks of break-in they should move easier at the flex points and conform to your foot, fitting like a glove.
