DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Great jacket for kids[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] High quality, and if you’re looking at this you have a small child, which means it’s a giant pain finding the right coat for them. It’s too warm, too cold, too wet, etc.. this coat basically solves that. The inner layer is a nice micro puff jacket, perfect for most days 30 degrees plus. The outer layer is about the same insulation but with a hood and waterproof (not sure how waterproof, but enough for a kids purposes) so can be used for those wet cold days. Combined it’s hard to see how a child could get cold in it, unless they were out for an abnormal amount of time. The outer shell is insulated, not just a shell, so if you’re hoping to get year round use (summer rain jacket) this isn’t the coat. This is the coat for fall/winter/early spring, and should cover all those needs very well. Very satisfied.
