The ExOfficio Women's BugsAway Lumen Hoody is an ultralight hoody for hike, travel and camp. The polyester and cotton blend is soft, moisture-wicking and dries fast. Zip along the trails during the day and relax by the fire at night, all while BugsAway technology protects against mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and more. It's built-in and odorless, so you won't even know it's there, and neither are the bugs. Treatment lasts up to 70 washes.

Great!Bought this on the way to Alaska and just used it in Costa Rica--it works very well--no bites when I have it on. I'm almost 5'10" and I bought it very oversized in the XL for CYA, rear-end bite protection (it's more like a tunic this way and I'm all for protecting as much from mosquitos as possible). It's lightweight, perfect for warm-weather hiking and tropical, bug-filled nights. The white is nice but does stain easily. PLEASE please please make this is black--I'm from NYC and that would be great. Also--please make some maxi dresses and workout/hiking/knit leggings in this stuff or other Bugsaway material--the options are way too limited!

Stains?I have 2 of these, bought at different times. It's a mystery how one got stained on the front and the cuffs in the first place, but no amount of pre-treating, multiple washes with air drying in between, etc. can get it clean. As it's white, I even bleached it in desperation as I was less concerned about the bugs-away feature yet I simply can't go out in public with this one on. I'm noting this in the hopes the company realizes that their products are designed to be used while hiking, rafting, walking on the beach, etc. and shouldn't be permanent dirt-magnets that won't come clean. I am very careful with my clothes and have only had this problem with 2 different ExO hoodies. (Lumen & Sol Cool Performance)

Even Better than the Last!Last year when they introduced the improved Lumen Hoody, I was skeptical. There was nothing wrong with the old design. Now I see why the "V-ed" out the neckline. The stitching on the older rounded neckline always made a tiny pucker where there shouldn't be one. They took the curve out of the kangaroo pocket opening and went with a straight seam pocket opening, making the pocket less obvious....safer, I imagine from pick-pockets. They also built in a secret zippered compartment inside the kangaroo pocket...great idea! You don't want money or passports slipping out accidentally. I noticed also that the bottom area around the hips seems a tiny bit more flared, and less clingy than the old design...best feature! Now I have to start collecting this style....why do you do this to me, ExOfficio!

Kept BugsAwayI was on a camping trip and was the only one to get mosquito bites the first night. I borrowed a friend's lumen hoody and didn't want to give it back! After wearing it, I didn't have any new bites. Because of the mesh design, it wasn't too hot even though the night time temps were still in the 90s. The bright bold colors are a nice touch too. I have two now and take them anywhere they might be needed.

Perfect fit, looks great!TRANSPARENT! Be aware that no matter the color, this item is transparent. Completely see-through. A couple of reviews mentioned this, but not all reviews, so I think it bears repeating. I have not worn it in a high-mosquito area yet, so I don't know how well it will repel those pesky insects. I'll update this review if I get any bites. I will say that the styling is excellent, and I appreciate the light fabric. This is my 3rd BugsAway hoodie: two "modena" style and one that is more of a mesh or woven fabric. Both styles are lightweight which is essential, since you would only need such a garment when it's hot and mosquitoes are most likely. I am extremely comfortable in these no matter how hot and humid it is, and I can't stand to be hot. Hope this helps.

Over priced and worthlessBought this for my wife 1 year ago and has been worn 5 or 6 times total. Laundered 3-4 times according to label instructions. This past weekend in NW WY she was nearly eaten alive by mosquitoes landing on the garment and biting through it. Completely worthless for advertised purpose. Don't waste your money

Good but flawed design gapI used this hoody to keep mosquitoes and other bugs away during a recent August trip to the Costa Rican rainforest. It seemed to work well in that regard, but there is one key design flaw: The women's version of this hoody has a somewhat deep V-neck that cannot be cinched up completely, leaving that area of your chest and neck exposed if you do not wear a shirt underneath--a potential deal breaker for women who want to get the maximum protection from mosquitoes carrying Zika and other diseases. What's puzzling is that the V-neck seems like a unnecessary concession to "style" for something intended almost entirely to be a functional garment. (The men's version, which I also bought for my husband and son, has a more protective crew neck.) With more and more women needing as much protection as possible from Zika- and other disease-bearing mosquitoes, I would strongly urge ExOfficio to fix this design flaw in an otherwise good product.

Mosquito bite on first day!I love the soft style and it kept off black flies, but a mosquito bit me through the fabric on the first hike. Exposed skin with insect repellent and trouser pre-treated with Taylor's permethrin were fine. I want to return it.
