Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this again! I wore this pack (2017 version) for over 2800 miles on the CDT (Continental Divide Trail) and never had any issues! The pack rode well, even with the weight of a 10 day carry through the Wind River Range. It may not be the lightest, but if you are willing to carry a little extra weight for better comfort then check out this pack. The top lid does come off to save a little weight. I always have a hard time finding packs that fit well, so when I find one that does, I give it a try. I have tried some of the typical brands used by long-distance hikers, but have only had luck with one other brand. I may try the Gregory Octal next time. I have had several Gregory packs and had good luck with them overall. I carried a Shasta (a workhorse) back in 2000 for the AT (Appalachian Trail) and a Jade for part of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail). The hip belt did loose its cushion which became unbearable on my protruding hipbones at the time. So I did have to find another pack for the remainder of that trip. (Which took me on an expensive week-long expedition trying to find another pack that worked for me ... but we did get to see some cool places off-trail). In the end I keep coming back to Gregory!

Size Guide

Gregory Women's Packs

Gregory backpacking packs are available in a size range. Please check the PRODUCT FEATURES and / or SPECIFICATIONS for the torso range measurements of each size of a pack. The steps below are a guide for measuring your torso size.

The hipbelts on Gregory backpacking packs are adjustable to fit a range of sizes. A simple rule of thumb is that the ideal distance between the ends of the hipbelt pads after tightening should be 3 to 5 inches. However, the most important criteria are that the hipbelt wraps clear over the side of your body and that it rests 1 inch above your iliac crest. This allows proper load transfer to your skeletal structure, which maximizes comfort and minimizes energy expenditure.

HOW to MEASURE TORSO SIZE
1. Put your chin to your chest and feel for the big bone protruding on your neck at the top of your spine. That's the C7 vertebra.

2. Feel your hip bone, the top part of this is your iliac crest. Find the spot on your back that is level with the top of this crest.

3. Have someone measure the distance between these two points, following the contours of your spine.
