Rated 5 out of 5 by from These were my 6th pair After discovering Hoka several years ago I quickly became a loyal customer. I spend 50hrs weekly on my feet with a herniated disk and I'm overweight. They are the best feeling shoes I've ever owned including my recovery flops. I recommend buying 2 pair at a time and alternating daily. This allows for the cushioning to fully rebound between wearing as most long distance runners do. My only complaint is most models outsoles wear out too quickly. However after discovering the "trail" versions with the vibram out soles I get double the millage compared to the non trail versions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from COMPARATIVE REVIEW, MAFATE SPEED 3 VS. SPEEDGOAT 4 I like comparative reviews, so here I'll compare the Mafate Speed 3 (MS3) to the Speedgoat 4 (SG4). I use these for running and hiking on steep/technical/off-camber terrain. The surface is typical of So Cal trails: Rock (incl. conglomerate) and baked clay covered by a thin layer of dust, sand and gravel. TLDR: My ideal trail shoe would be the SG4 with the midsole material and stack height of the MS3. FIT: The SG4 is true-to-size for a HOKA. The MS3 runs long-I needed to go 1/2-size down, to a 7. [This may be specific to the smaller sizes.] The SG4's low forefoot helps hold the foot better than the MS3. I can get equivalent lockdown with the MS3 but, even though it's a 1/2-size smaller, its high forefoot means I have to crank the laces harder, compromising comfort. [The MS3's forefoot height probably helps comfort for long runs on moderate terrain, where lockdown isn't as important.] TRACTION: SG4 wins. They both use Vibram Megagrip lugs. But the SG4's Vibram lugs run front-to-back, while the MS3 has a big gap under the arch that uses midsole foam lugs only. IMO, for both safety and performance, all HOKA trail shoes should have outsoles as serious as the SG4's. MIDSOLE: MS3 wins. Its midsole has a wonderful combination of responsiveness, shock absorption, and comfort. I also like that it doesn't taper too sharply at the front, instead maintaining nice thickness for forefoot landings during descents. The SG4's midsole isn't bad, but it's firmer (less comfortable underfoot), less responsive, and less shock absorbing; my knees can tell the difference. STABILITY: SG4 wins. Both have uppers that are sufficiently structured to keep the foot centered on technical terrain (the MS3 is a big improvement over the Evo Mafate 2, whose upper has too much lateral stretch for technical terrain). However, the SG4's lower stack and wider forefoot base (its midsole flares laterally at the forefoot to help prevent ankle roll) gives it better stability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hiking go to shoe My main use for trail runners is for hiking. The atr was my favorite. It had one major flaw. The tread. It would wear out to quickly and was slippery when wet. The mafate solves this with the vibram sole. Very aggressive and good when jumping from rock to rock when wet. Same overall feel as the atr, maybe a little more cushion. The tongue is more minimalist than the atr but still comfortable on long days. More stable than the speed goats. I would roll my ankle in those. The only flaw in the mafate and the reason for 4 stars is the price, becouse you tend to replace trail runners more frequently when used for hiking and the extra 50 bucks starts to add up. Mafate are my new go to trail runners

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I will not but again because of poor customer service Bought theses and a week later the seam came apart on the tongue of the shoe. Tried to call customer service and they will only send me a replacement pair of I send the defective pair in first. This unfortunately will leave my son without shoes until we can get the replacements. I could go buy cheap shoes but he has extreme pain I his feet and I am not willing to risk that. This is my 7th pair we have purchased as a family. I have had one other pair come apart at the soles not even a year later and I would have chalked that up to a fluke until this. I personally will not but another pair directly form this company again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great trail shoes All my previous Hoka shoes have had responsive soles. These are my first pair with balanced cushioning. I've tried them out with 5-10 mile trail runs and find them to be extremely comfortable. As an older runner, the extra cushioning seems easier on knees and back. I've found that my times are as good or better than with lighter shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe! I just retired my Speed Goat 4's at 400 miles on my Strava exercise app. I decided to purchase the Hoka One Mafate 3 for my next Hoka shoe, they are the best. I like them better, they are more solid underfoot. I use them for hiking in the dry Southern California climate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I will not buy this model again Good fit, roomy toe box, well padded, good traction. Shoe tongue too short, laces may slip off the tongue over the socks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed Wore them for less then a day, the seam in which they sewed the tounge had rubbed the skin off my big toe.

HOW to MESAURE
If you are unsure which shoe size to purchase, please follow the below steps:

1. Trace the outline of each foot on a piece of paper.

2. In a straight line from the middle of the heel to the longest toe, measure the length of each foot.

3.If one foot is longer than the other, take the larger measurement and compare to the chart. Foot length will determine your shoe size - round up or down to the closest size within 2mm.
