BRING BACK THE OLD DESIGN - PLEASEI just want to add my voice to call for the former boxer-brief design.
I was hoping they would be back alongside the most recent collection after buying several pairs of the orange/grey stripe and finding they were longer than I was expecting.
I haven't seen the same quality issues others had mentioned. For me though the longer size has made the fit a lot less comfortable, especially for the Aus summer.
All that said - please bring back the boxer-brief design, even if it's only in one colour/fabric choice, at least it's there for us old schoolers.

The best boxers on the planet... or they wereI still remember the day I finally discovered the greatest boxers ever. I had tried thirteen different brands and was beginning to lose heart... then a trip to Paddy Pallins in Sydney led me to gold: Icebreaker Anatomicas. Perfect in every way... with the sole exception of durability. I cycled 8 pairs and they would last me half a year, then it was time to get the credit card out but I was OK with that because they *were* perfect. But it seems that the durability complaints were mounting so back to the drawing board went Icebreaker "We must make these things last a year". Unfortunately that wasn't the only requirement. "We should also get rid of the cup at the front that everyone loves - after all, our customers are as anatomically impaired as a Ken doll - right?"... "Oh and this Merino stuff is expensive, lets swap some of that out for plastic"... Now I am sad. My old style Anatomicas are dying and the new ones are not wearable. I have to begin my search again...

Design failI have been a loyal IB customer from when they started and I've had IB underwear for a while now. Received the latest for Xmas and really disappointed by design update from the original cup. It compresses everything which is not the natural wearing experience I had become used to. Maybe this is personal preference but not sure how other men would enjoy it either? Will be returning this for refund and sadly moving on from IB underwear.

What's Swampa**?I've run through quite a few different brands' merino boxers over the past year, and I don't know what took me so long to get the Anatomicas.
I bushwhack 10-12 mile days in the backcountry during archery season, when temperatures range between 75-90 degress Fahrenheit. These boxers dry incredibly fast, even after jumping in the creek to rinse off. I was back in my clothes and hiking in 10 minutes, while my friends were miserable in their wet poly boxers.
It's nice not having to worry about smell as frequently as I would in a pair of cotton or polyester boxers. I haven't had any durability issues yet, but time will tell.
Absolutely love these things.

Center seem does no favorsHaving a number of other Icebreaker pieces I was looking forward to wearing some similarly comfortable and well designed Icebreaker undershorts. Unfortunately, the center seem in the IB undershorts is very uncomfortable if doing extended walking and will cause significant chafing in my center seem area, eventually making walking very uncomfortable, to the extent that now I will only wear them if i do not expect to be particularly mobile for any length of time. In comparing the IB shorts with comfortable cotton undershorts that I own I found that the cotton shorts have two flat seems, one on either side of the central area, and these have never caused any chafing, so maybe, that is a design element that IB should consider adopting in future undershort production. I do, however, enjoy the odor control and moisture processing ability of the IB shorts a significant advantages over cotton.

Uncomfortable beyond beliefUnfortunately these are the most uncomfortable underwear I've ever worn. There is no front pocket to speak of in this design, so it simply pushes your 'package' uncomfortably against your leg. Beware. I tried these several times but each time found myself wanting to get them off within a short time.
On the plus side the fabric feels nice, and worthy of a star

New Material and Cut are TerribleI had a few pairs of Anatomicas that I (literally) wore around the world. From the mountains and jungles of Colombia to the Komodo islands of Indonesia. I LOVE them. Soft, breathable. They hug and stay put without constricting. The cut of the legs was perfect, the sizing was perfect. And it would take a full week of sweaty jungle funk before they held any sort of noticeable odor and needed a wash. So, after a few years when I could no longer patch the holes they were getting, I figured it was time to cycle in a few more pairs.
The new ones still have the same tag that says "merino wool with just a touch of spandex" but they're only 84% wool instead of 96%. The rest is a mix of synthetics. The new material is rough, doesn't breathe as well, and holds funk after a day of casual wear. The new cut is tighter in all areas. It somehow rides down and up at the same time. The new legs are thinner and longer, leading to bunching. These aren't the same shorts they used to be and I'm pretty upset at Icebreaker for changing them without indicating the changes on the packaging (I bought from REI). I used a promotion value to buy them so I can't even return them. I guess they'll sit in the bottom of my drawer for last-ditch use on laundry days.

durability concerns after one washIn theory merino is an ideal material for intimate garments (breathable, temp regulating, etc.) but it can be surprisingly fragile in high-friction environments. I've had other company's merino underwear tear or fail after 10 wear/wash cycles. I really wanted to love these boxers, but the amount of fabric pilling after just one wear/wash cycle gives me little hope these will be any more durable. I'm frustrated.
