Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A summer-feasible wool shirt In the world of menswear in the US, the fit is more like the more trim youth-oriented international surfing-themed brands, not the pudge-oriented brands. If in any doubt, order a size larger. The chest pocket is not buttoned. The fabric is very comfortable, more so than the usual cotton-polyester. The wool-polyester-stretch fabric is lightweight and perfect for situations where one wants to look presentable while being outdoors and active in soggy summer weather. This is my first venture into a part-wool shirt for non-winter use (I live in a warm climate); I expect it to be followed. Certainly an alternative to seersucker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So perfect I had to buy it again! My collection of Icebreaker began 8+ years ago and now I have amassed more than 30 pieces, from hoodies and tees to button downs and tanks. I love them all, but this is the one piece that epitomizes the IB brand. By far the MOST complimented item of clothing that I own, so much so, I had to buy another one of the Midnight Navy. I am 6'3" (191cm), 185lbs (84kilos), with a V-shaped torso, wide shoulders, and the Large fits perfect. I use the FitFinder--normally it is very accurate and Large is typically my size for all tops. The composition of the shirt is spot on with the LYCRA®Dobby blend. Keeping me cool while looking cool! Price is the only drawback. However, sometimes you just have to spend on quality and this is the BEST the world has to offer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shirt for Ultralight Backpacking I have been wearing lightweight wool tee shirts for backpacking for some time and love that the smell less and stay warmer when wet than synthetics do. I enjoy a good plaid shirt when around town, but have never thought of using one on the trail because of the weight and all of mine were cotton; that was, until I bought this shirt. The compass shirt is just as breathable as my wool tees and has the ability to fully vent by unbuttoning the front. The front pocket is great for storing my phone to listen to podcasts and take pictures without having too much weight on the front of the shirt. Plus, I look a lot more presentable to drivers when trying to get a hitch into town for a resupply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shirt - Miss the Departure You can wear it for several days while traveling. Will quickly become a favorite. Biggest challenge is Icebreaker keeps coming out with different patterns vs solids. You will end up wearing the shirt so much, the patterns will remind everyone that you are wearing the same shirt each day. Prefer the solid colors, less interesting but better at getting away with the same shirt. Departure short sleeve was also great. Would be great it Icebreaker brought that back. Add a few more solid colors.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs to be ironed! I was very disappointed when I discovered the shirt needs to be ironed despite following the care instructions exactly. It's a nice enough shirt, but requires too much care to look nice after washing

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Color Started Fading in Less than 6 Months When I purchased this shirt last year (May 2017--Stealth color) I though that I had found the perfect all-around shirt. I find myself traveling quite a bit in hot climates (SEA, India, China). And it really seemed to live up to the product description: for "active summer days and epic days of traveling to far-flung destinations..." But after less than 6 months of wear, really two trips to Asia, I noticed that the color started to fade unevenly. The Stealth blue had turned into a splotchy purple, around the collar, sleeves and back. A bit disappointing considering that the shirt is specifically marketed towards active travel in hot, sunny climates. Despite the high price tag, I own quite a few other Icebreaker products and love them--wearing them daily almost exclusively because of their quality, comfort, and real value. And as a realist I acknowledge that no fabric and dye, however well engineered, is permanently lightfast, but compared to my other Icebreaker shirts that I've had for a longer period (Departure/Departure II), the Compass Short Sleeve Shirt just didn't hold up in a way that I've come to expect from IB. So my assessment after a year? Either this is a one-off issue, or the Compass shirt isn't really suited for an "active lifestyle." Though I'm really hoping the former is the case. So even though I'm reserving my judgement, I can't really recommend this product if you intend to go on adventures in far-flung destinations. Maybe keep it to the adventures in the hotel bar, or indoor convention center?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High performing shirt with a dapper fit Frankly, most outdoor sport apparel fits too baggy to be seen anywhere else besides the trail or crag. That's not the case with the Compass short-sleeve. The fit and fabric is highly functional and comfortable for low-to-medium cardio activities (backpacking, rock climbing,...) and I'm also not ashamed to wear the Compass at an airport or cafe. Like most attractive products this shirt is quite expensive. The question is: Does the the quality of craftsmanship justify the price?? I've only owned this shirt for a month so it's still too early to tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best travel shirt ever I wasn’t sure if Tencel would perform as well as pure merino for travel, but after a couple of weeks in the summer heat of India and parts of Asia, I can say that this is the best summer travel shirt I’ve ever had. Brought two of these for a 12 day trip and they were both just about odor free despite sweating all day in extreme heat. At first they feel a bit warmer than a cotton shirt, but temp regulation of the material and feel is excellent. You never feel clammy, and it dries out quickly unlike cotton. Cut is great, and the material drapes like a fine piece of clothing, with minimal wrinkles even after constant use. After washing, I use a hand steamer and wrinkles just fall away. I can now travel for a week with a small backpack. Amazing. Changed my life.
