Icebreaker MerinoLOFT

Icebreaker MerinoLOFT
MerinoLOFT is lightweight insulation created from premium, ethically-sourced wool fibers. Ten percent of the loft comes from recycled merino offcuts salvaged from the factory floor, while the jackets’ water repellent shell is made from recycled polyester. MerinoLOFT garments are Icebreaker’s warmest-ever jackets, and are ideal for lightweight layering. Icebreaker is using the latest technology to build the next generation of high performance merino.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a sportsman's jacket The benefit of wool to a backcountry skier or for any athletic activity is wool's reluctance to get smelly. The designer of this jacket eliminated that advantage by putting a polyester panel from the hem to the cuff, right past the arm pit. The jacket was obviously designed for an easy walk to the coffee shop and not for a long slog up the side of a mountain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and tough Have been constantly wearing this jacket around casually. It has a very sleek design and looks good in any situation. I'm stuck somewhere between a medium and a large depending on brand, but the large size fits me perfectly. I recently took this on a multi day backpacking trip in the mountains. It performed amazingly. It regulated my body temperature when I was hiking so I didn't overheat and kept me warm during 14 degree F weather (This was my top layer) when I was not hiking. It also shed water very well in a light drizzle. I was hesitant buying this because it weighs slightly more than other jackets of comparable price, but ultimately I wanted merino wool over down. I'm very happy with my choice because of the durability of merino wool and the general durability of Icebreakers products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Comfortable! This jacket is light, moves really well with me, yet keeps me surprisingly comfortable in a wide range of temps. It's not magical, I can still get cold if I'm sitting still out in the cold, but, like all of my Merino, it has a very wide temp range where my body stays happy. My only problem with it is the sleeve length is shorter than I'm accustomed to from Icebreaker. I'm 6'1", 175lbs so I'm long and skinny. In general from most brands, Medium size fits my body, but is short in the arms. In contrast, I have an Icebreaker Medium size button up shirt that fits my lanky body perfectly and even my arms (AMAZING). Unfortunately for me, this jacket fits more like a normal cut, so the body and shoulders are just right, but the sleeves are a bit short. The end result is I can't use the thumb holes in the sleeve. So I'm going to sew them shut. Fortunately, the stretchy cuff still extends far enough to reach my hand and will be comfortable under glove cuffs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tricky sizing - sharp jacket The Helix jacket is a great layer, and also perfect for several cool months of the year as a city jacket. I use it in the city cause it has a nice breast pocket for mobile phone, and it isn't bulky. The trouble I've found is that the website says I'm a large, but the large"fits", but there is too much extra fabric in the chest and stomach area for it to be practical. The medium is a good fit, but is I gain one ounce of weight, it's going to look ridiculous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Icebreaker Excellence What makes the long sleeve helix zip excellent beyond Icebreaker quality? The sleeve extension with thumb holes covers to mid-palm. Seamless with gloves when used as an outer layer. Form fitting, yet a merino base layer, any weight, can be worn beneath. Three accessible front zip pockets including breast pocket are easily used. Full zip front for easy removal, and merino wool insulation. Comfortable in 30 to 60+ temp range. And my situation, wearing a TLS chest orthotic for 90 days after spinal fusion. Helix covers perfectly, and in 5 weeks orthotic will be gone, helix will function and look great for years. Thank you Mountain Steals for a superior product at a superior price with a smooth delivery. Perfect!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mid-layer!! I bought this as a mid-layer but Ive found myself wearing it as an outer layer on sunny days down to 30f with no problems. I'm 6'3 and sleeves of the XL are just barely long enough when using the thumbholes. The only negative to note is that the chest pocket will get wet from sweat so be careful what you put in there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm Helix long sleeve zip I bought the Helix because it is warm and offers a light mid layer for skiing and some casual wear. It is awesome. Warm not too tight and the long cuff with the thumb holes even help keep my hands warm. Being a ski instructor I am outside much of the day and so far this top has preformed well to keep me very comfortable in mild and cold temps. I also love the zipper which makes it very easy to get on and off. A top of the line top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Unbelievable fit, comfort, and quality as all of my purchases from Icebreaker have been over at the years. Warm but not heavy and pockets that work for just about any temperatures below 65 degrees.
