Needs to go back to the drawing boardShould have stuck with the Akashas, but after several months battling plantar fasciitis, I liked the sound of the support in the Jackal. They felt good when I tried them on, but took them out on the trail for a couple miles three weeks ago. Downhills were miserable. Toes go straight to the end of the shoe. This isn't my first pair of La Sportivas so I knew to size up a half size. Also got a blister on my heel thanks to the heel slippage. I took them out for four miles last week and six today. Blisters on both heels today. Tried different socks also. These are the worst trail shoes I have ever had. Going to the burn pile.

Have really helped me come back to running! These shoes are awesome, and I'm so glad bc I have been somewhat plagued by PFS for the past year. PT and a more supportive shoe have really been a great solution for me (disclaimer: not providing medical advice, just what worked for me). I also find the wide toe to be really comfortable. I don't have wide feet, but I do get some swelling, particularly when I run at altitude. A couple of things...the sizing runs a little small, so I got a 38, whereas I normally get a 37.5 in Sportiva running shoes, and it's perfect. I also like that there are two colors because it makes it a lot easier for me to remember to rotate my shoes between runs (a recommendation from my PT).
I also think that the yellow ones are cute for just wearing around. I have worn them with mom jeans and received compliments from people whose sense of fashion I respect. So there is that too.

ULTRA FANFinding an ultra distance running shoe with adequate traction, protection and stability is almost impossible..until now!
I've had a lot of "maximally" cushioned shoes over the years and my one big complaint has always been lack of stability and enough protection for technical terrain.
With the right balance of cushioning and stability, you can run long miles without the same fatigue from a squishy platform that let's your foot "slide" around in the shoe. Additionally, I found the 7mm drop to be of great advantage on the down hill. The toe box seems to have plenty of room for your foot to swell over long miles and still be comfortable.
Super psyched to put these to the final test when I can finally run another race. For now, I'll settle for a looong "backyard challenge."
-I sized up a half size from my US street shoe but you may want to go even more.

Nice, but not a replacement for AkashaI was hoping that the Jackyl would replace my beloved - and discontinued - Akashas (La Sportiva, please bring them back!!). The shoe is marketed as “exceptionally cushioned” and ideal for long trail days, but I unfortunately found this not super accurate. The Jackyl is really lightweight and grippy, both great qualities. But I found it to be a more responsive ride, and I could definitely feel the ground underfoot. At the end of a 14 miler, my legs felt more fatigue than I’d hoped with brand new shoes. Also, like other reviewers I got some gnarly heel blisters and I felt the heel cup was pretty rigid. I think the Jackyl could be a great option for shorter days on easy trail, but I’m still looking for that cushy, comfy out of the box feel for 20-30 mile days that I miss so much in the Akasha.

Cushioned & comfy shoeI've been using my jackals for city runs and mixed trail/pavement surfaces and I love them! They have a lot of cushion, which feels nice on the body when running on hard city surfaces. They also have a wider toe box and are super comfortable. The jackals have become a regular part of my running 'fit.

Sizing is WAY OFFThe sizes for these shoes are very inaccurate. The run EXTREMELY small. I am an avid runner and purchase a US Women's 9 for all my running shoes, which according to the La Sportiva size chart is a 40.5. When the shoes came in the mail I was very disappointed to see that my toes were touching the end of the shoe. My boyfriend and I got the same shoe, followed the size guide and both ended up with a trail runner that fit as tight as a climbing shoe.

Run Small! Be aware.I was very disappointed because these shoes feel great and I knew I was going to love them just by opening the box, but they run at least 1/5 size small. I have multiple La Sportiva shoes of the same size, but the fit in this one was way off. Toe touches and it is very uncomfortable. I will have to return them.

Great running shoes. The La Sportiva Jackal has made my entry back into running great. The Jackal is well cushioned and supportive - which is a plus for me because I occasionally suffer from shin splints. I've been trying to keep a steady routine of running three days a week for a total of 10 miles a week as I'm slowly getting back into the swing of running again and am happy to report that I have not felt my shin splints flair up after wearing the Jackal. These shoes are now my go to shoes for about any activity - whether that's jogging around my neighborhood, hiking at one of my favorite local spots or just running errands around town.
Sizing of the shoe feels on par with most of La Sportiva's other shoes. I ordered a size 6.5 (37.5 EU) in the La Sportiva Jackal and haven't felt the back of the shoe rub against my achilles or like the shoe was too small for my feet. The size I ordered in the Jackal is one half-size up from what I ordered in the La Sportiva Boulder X and TX4 approach shoes (size 6/37 EU), which also fit my feet well. The half size up gives my feet a little room to breathe without feeling like I'm slipping out of the shoe. It also is roomy enough for when my feet start to swell after a run. So far I've logged 145 miles (walking/running) in the Jackal and they've felt amazing on my feet.
What surprised me the most about the Jackal was how lightweight the shoe is. Looking forward to putting many more miles in the La Sportiva Jackal!

NOTES La Sportiva shoes are built on European half sizes which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This creates four extra sizes per size run, which ultimately results in a better fit.
