Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome helmet with a kinda quirky design feature [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this helmet about a month ago to replace my old one. I have started a new instructing job where I have to wear a helmet for hours on end, so I was looking for something comfy and lightweight. I love the aesthetic of Mammut's products, and this helmet caught my eye. The IRL version is a little less pastel-looking than it looks in the picture (at least the current picture when I'm writing this), but it's still a nice vibrant orange color! As for functionality, there was one thing that I was bummed about when I first got it out of the box. It did not seem like the right ear triangle(is that the name for it?)'s height could be adjusted for some reason, even though the left one could. The slider at the bottom of the right triangle was just high enough to press on my right ear lobe, which was annoying, especially for a helmet at this price. After staring at it for a few weeks though, I noticed the screw holding in the rear headlamp clip (well, the clip for the bungee that holds the headlamp... fancy), and how the straps seemed to be fixed here. Upon unscrewing and pulling that clip out, it turns out that the "straps" are actually just one continuous strap! With the clip out, you can actually slide the strap from the left side to the right, thus lowering the right ear triangle. I haven't seen a helmet designed like this before, and the manual doesn't mention it at all. It works I suppose, but it's unintuitive and inconvenient that you kinda have to disassemble the helmet any time you want to adjust the height of the right ear triangle. Let alone have a tiny screwdriver on you if you're at the crag. Not too much of an issue though if you're the only person using the helmet and you're not sharing it. As for all helmets, there's a bit of a trade-off between lightweightness and durability. Obviously the exposed styrofoam along the vents of this helmet get scratched and dented pretty easily, and the thin plastic coating probably wouldn't take to kindly to accidentally being dropped or stepped on, when compared to a cheaper and heavier thick-plastic-shell-type helmet. Now that I've figured out how to adjust the straps, the helmet is super comfortable with no pressure points that I've noticed! As for protecting the noggin, I haven't had a rock fall on my head with this helmet on yet so I cannot attest to that aspect. But presumably, it'd make the rock hurt a little less or something like that.
