Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why the switch to cheap material? Guys, your original work glove was bomb-proof. I’ve got a pair in my back pocket as I write this, which has survived 4-5 winters of anything I could throw at them. I ordered a new pair bc the finger tips of the old pair have finally worn thru. I was so disappointed to open up the new pair and find that they’re not even leather construction anymore?! I’m sure there are reasons on your end for the change, but there’s no way this new set will hold up to any manual labor. I’ll be returning them and sewing some leather patches onto the old pair, I guess. Wondering why when the old pair was so great you guys would opt to redesign?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable! Have bought a couple pairs of these over the years for work around the house and farm and haven't found anything that compares for cold weather. Believe me, I've tried and worn out a lot of gloves between tractor work, logging, snow blowing, splitting wood and brush clearing. I normally only use pig skin designs and go through several pair a year. I really like the fact that they are lightly lined, but find that they do run small - I'm average sized at 5'10" and 175#, but need the XL gloves. I'm usually a large in other products. They are a bit too warm for the summer work, but great for the other three seasons in New England

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not leather, cheap I can't buy marmot anymore. These are, as other reviewers have noted, not warm, not durable, and not real leather. The bonded leather/vinyl flaked off in days. The material does not take waterproofing or mink oil. In the photo you can see how the fake leather has flaked from a couple days of very light use. Products like these are an embarrassment and dilute your brand. As a professional outdoor guide and coach, I rely on having the best gear and can't afford to risk spending my hard-earned money on fake leather work gloves. I'm sadly done with Marmot.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great gloves but not that durable Got these gloves last fall for outdoor chores. They are very comfortable and fit great. The problem is that the leather is too thin on the left glove and wore a hole in the thumb after a month of use cutting down trees and chopping the wood up. The left gloves leather is much lighter and softer than the right and is more like a dress glove thickness than a work glove. So overall they are great gloves for outdoor use and the occasional chore but if you plan on doing a lot of heavy work they will wear out quickly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Completely different from what I thought I ordered This is m y second pair of Basic Work Gloves. I loved the gloves and wore them daily for most all outside activity in the snow and cold of Winter, including out to dinner. The new XL pair is close to 1" longer in the fingers in comparing to the original XL pair. This is awkward in gloves when you have that much extra space. The leather is also different--stiffer and seems like a lesser leather. Any way, these went from my favorite glove due to fit/comfort to a bulky stiff leather thing I have thrown into my chain bag for chair removal. No more Marmot for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its no secret that ice Its no secret that ice climbers across the country rely on a certain well-known brand of industrial leather work gloves. The system works well - you buy a few pairs and a can of snow seal. When your first pair wets out, you stuff them in your parka and take out the next. Here, Marmot has managed to take a good system and make it great. The Basic Work Glove has a much higher-performance and dexterous fit than its industrial counterpart. With liberal application of snow sealant, I've found them to be incredibly durable - I took two pairs through an entire season of New England ice and mixed, including some mixed hand jamming and face climbing, and they show no signs of wearing out. Some folks will prefer a high performance, higher cost glove, but for those of us who preach the "cheap gloves, many pairs" approach the Basic Work Glove is fantastic. I would buy more, but mine still haven't worn out...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Durable gloves, but left not as good as the right. I've had these for a year and really like them for their intended purpose except there are some construction issues in one of the gloves causing the glove fingers to twist on my fingers. This puts the finger seams across my finger tips and is a bit annoying, and causing some premature wear on the one glove.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Embarrassing Product Marmot!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought a pair of these years ago, they were AWESOME and lasted years. They were made of high quality leather and were very comfortable and durable. I decided to purchase another pair for myself and a pair for my son this past December. These are pure unadulterated garbage. The extremely cheap painted pig leather is an embarrassment Marmot!! Notice the older reviews versus recent reviews, what a change! Marmot this product is beneath your quality standards, or are they? I was a big fan, but I'll refrain from purchasing Marmot in the future after this experience.
