Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK all-around softshell I love the material of this softshell, its the perfect all around thickness that can be worn anytime of year.  My main problem is how tight the sleeves are around the forearms.  I dont have huge forearms either so I am not just being picky here.  This jacket could be 5 stars if the arms were a little more roomy, thus providing more versatility for the user.  As it stands, you can barely layer a long sleeve T under it.  Also, ditch shoulder pocket, its unnecessary, no one uses it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this jacket. Slightly stretchy softshell, great for lighter conditions / more aerobic activity. The M3 is the lightest weight of Marmot's softshell line. It runs true to size (I have the Med, 5'8" / 190 athletic), in a trim cut - great for not having overhang of fabric, but long enough on the arms/ waist. Looks pretty sick. It also makes it a great midlayer for colder climes.,,,,Wind-resistant but not 100% windproof, but that's what you want in a lighter softshell, as it breathes great and also allows some circulation even when zipped up, in stronger winds. Love love love this jacket. Holds up well in washings and love the shoulder zipper too. Great construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super rugged I got this jacket several years ago, but unfortunately lost it. This jacket was a workhorse. Some people complain about its thinness, however that adds to the jackets versatility. The material its made from is beyond tough, I went caving with this jacket, no rips or abrasions on the hard volcanic rock. It worked as a shell jacket when skiing in milder conditions. An all around excellent softshell that fit very well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not so good I bought this last year at a good price and it seemed liked another great Marmot jacket but unless I am using it for higher output activities, it is pretty much useless. The wind blows right through it and it is not very warm. It seems this version of soft-shell material actually makes the jacket colder (I used a thermal temp gun to check this) and if I sweat, it does not transfer moisture. I have had other soft-shell jackets (Marmot's Leadville, E-Lines, Estes, and Gravity), all great jackets with no issues. I wish I could return this jacket. Very disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great style, accurate description The description of the jacket on Moosejaw's website accurately describe what this jacket is. It is a light breathable softshell and it does exactly what it says. What's missing from the description is the amazing style of this jacket. I love style of this jacket and that's what made it a keeper for me. I have a slim built 130lbs 5"9' and the small fits me perfectly. Love the color as well, I got the blue ink. I find that this is a good jacket to wear for the spring and fall season and the summer if you are at mid altitude hiking up a summit. The pockets do keep your hands warm as it it helps block the cold wind as well. Overall a great jacket and will last me a long time. Love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Style over function This jacket looks great but its lacking in a few details. The left arm pocket is not as functional as a chest pocket for activities when you want to store an ipod or other device. There is also no inside pocket for other storage. The arm length is about an inch or two long although I do not have a problem with other Marmot jackets. This looks great and its good into the 40's if your doing light activities like bike riding. A couple little tweaks would make this more functional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional, good looking, solidly constructed, as you would expect from Marmot As one of the other reviewers said, the cut of this jacket might be best suited to someone with a slender or athletic build. At 5'11", 165, the Medium fits me perfectly. Looks great around town walking the dog on chilly days, and it served me well trekking to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, both as an outer layer at lower altitudes and as a medium layer on summit day. At about 500 grams, it's pretty lightweight and packs great. If I had to nit-pick, I wish it had the inside chest pocket like my Marmot Gravity jacket. But that aside, I expect it to last for years to come. A winner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this jacket! I have had the Marmot Approach Jacket for 6+ months and I love it! It is the perfect weight for spring/fall. It breathes well and sheds water nicely. I use it for an extra layer while running when temps are in the 20s and for playing soccer when temps are in the 40s. I am generally warm so this jacket is perfect to take the edge off. It is definitely not a winter weight like the Marmot Gravity but it is certainly more functional than a basic fleece.
