DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Marmot Down Defender

Marmot Down Defender
Marmot Down Defender helps prevent down from clumping when exposed to water or moisture. This allows it to keep its loft, which equates to greater insulation. Nothing will stop the specially treated, highly water-resistant down from trapping warm air next to your body.

Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cozy puffy I bought this jacket to replace an older 800 fill down jacket (from a competitor) that I had for 15 years. I have had great satisfaction from Marmot softgoods in the past, so I wanted to give this coat a try. It's very lofty and super warm. I like the insulated hood, and the down has stayed dry in the wet snow we often get in the Idaho panhandle. I'm 6'0" and about 190. My arms are longer than average so I got the XL. It is a little longer, but it's still got a narrower cut and has plenty of room for more layers if necessary. This jacket will serve as my coldest weather jacket for apres, light winter hiking, and day-to-day use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality Product I bought this Jacket right in time for Winter and was so impressed by its smooth, soft and light weight material. Have been wearing it almost every day ever since I got it. Put all other winter Jackets away. Nice water repellent capacity and extreme warmth. No need for layers underneath. No feeling of Bulkiness. Hood is a great addition, eliminates the need for winter hat and neck scarf. Pockets have a great hand warming capacity. Excellent Fit. Jacket will not leak feathers unlike other traditional down jackets. Have had couple of strangers approach me for more information on the Jacket after seeing "Marmot" logo on the front and back. Overall excellent product and Highly recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THIS! My husband bought this about 2 months ago, and while it is very warm and comfortable - within in a couple wears small holes started to appear in the outer fabric and feathers started to leak out. Now there are several large gashes and feathers are pouring out. We thought “no big deal” if it’s just a few small holes that could be repaired but this is absolutely ridiculous. It’s understood that it’s a more fragile style of jacket in general but it seems like now you can barely take it off it’s hook and put it on without ripping. Hoping marmots warranty will cover this and that we can pick a new style of jacket all together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value, great look, super warm Was really wanting a winter weight puffy and looked at a couple and landed on the Guide Down Hoody for primarily 2 reasons: first, that sick gold and green colorway (the green is for money, the gold is for the honey). second, the dual slider zipper. I don't understand why every separating zipper on the market is not a dual slider. Need to sit? Need to belay? Need to vent? The guides down hoody was the only affordable dual slider zip down puffy I could find. The rest are seemingly all super deluxe 999 fillpower down and cost more than a solid used car. Newsflash everybody, 700 fill down is still really warm and compressible. Thanks again Marmot!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Face fabric is ridiculously sensitive I have had this coat for about a year and a half, only wearing it around the city during winter. The bottom of the coat started developing little holes through which the down was leaking. This happened from a few months of use, solely from the jacket rubbing against my pants as I walked around. Sent it in for warranty, but apparently that was not covered, as it is considered "normal wear and tear". In my opinion, there's nothing normal about a supposedly premium jacket not lasting more than 2 seasons of such non-challenging use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Major flaw! Sure the jacket is fine. There’s nothing particularly special about it. It is puffy and has nice colors. It doesn’t feel like the most technical or well-built jacket ever. But, that’s all fine- the price is good enough when it’s on sale. THEN you try to wear it on a cold day and the metal grommets bring the cold straight to your face and allow the air in. Having the metal, uncovered touching your face is inexcusable! (I expect a lot from winter jackets.). I’ve never seen this done before and it doesn’t make sense to me. I had this jacket and wore it for about 10 minutes before I sent it back. Definitely not for anyone serious about being outside when it’s cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lightweight and warm all around jacket! I was looking for a warm lightweight jacket for Chicago winters to be out and about in and stay warm. This jacket is lightweight and in a much different category then my other lightweight puffy jackets. This is a stand alone, not a first layer to be worn under a shell. Has all the correct pockets including a chest pocket which is perfect for a phone. I use it for walking the dogs and around town when its cold. I have plenty of lightweight jackets for running, cycling and skiing---needed something for hanging which would be warmer then the lightweight stuff I already own and this has worked perfectly. The fit is true to size and not to slim--very comfortable!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing - not suitable for serious use I bought this a few days ago and, while it's quite well-made, I'm disappointed that it contains so little down. I read several reviews which suggested that it would be a warm mountain jacket suitable for winter walking. It isn't. It has about half the "loft" (down fill volume) of the old Mountain Equipment Nuptse jacket I intended that it would replace. So although the down is 700-rated the jacket contains too little down for use in low temperatures. Marmot are not being honest in their marketing since they don't make it clear that this is a warm fashion item not a piece of technical equipment. A serious Guide might wear it to the bar but not on a mountain.
