Product Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great except armpits Everything about this jacket was great from the quality, warmth, to the fit, except for the armpit. There’s are zippers at the armpits and the material there bunches up into the armpits making it very uncomfortable to wear. I have an older version of this jacket from a few years ago and it’s quite a bit baggier than this new one, so it seems Marmot, in an attempt to make this more sleek and form fitting has shrunk some of the dimensions, which has caused this armpit issue. It’s unfortunate as I really liked the look of this jacket but this issue made it uncomfortable and unwearable, and I ultimately had to return it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A lot to like, but... ...as a number of people noted, the armpits are uncomfortably snug, and I have a slender build. I like the look, fit, and feel of the jacket. The arms are a bit long, but I could live with that. It's the fold of the pit zippers that comes up into the armpit area. It was noticeable with only a slim fit long sleeve T-shirt. I tried layering a midweight base layer with a midweight fleece and as expected, the snugness in the pits was more pronounced. Under less than ideal circumstances (stormbound), I could see it being very annoying. Since our bodies all differ somewhat, I'd expect that some people would be fine with the fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for what I bought it for This jacket is perfect for my needs. I will use it on the mountain in sub-teen weather and is great for around town in colder weather. It is very warm (not parka warm). It would be too warm to snowboard in above the teens but the lengthy pit zips should help dump heat well. As others have said, the pits are slightly high, but not uncomfortably so. I'm 6'0/215 athletic build and it is comfortable with a t-shirt and flannel under it or base layer like a Patagonia R1. I have not tried to layer under it, but seems to be plenty of room in the chest to wear even a puffy vest underneath. Hood is wonderful. Very insulated and comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Arctic Expedition Jacket [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After many hours spent searching, I decided to purchase this jacket for a recent trip to Svalbard, the northernmost human settlement on this planet. Temperatures ranged from -15 to 15 (F) throughout the trip. Each day I wore a wool base layer, a midlayer (sweater or flannel) and this jacket. It was perfect. I was never cold. I was even surprised that the hood was insulated and when the wind was wrecking my head, I’d just pull the hood up and feel instant relief from the wind at my back. The armpit zipper vents were not an issue for me at all. I never noticed them. To note, I am 5’10”, 155 lbs with a skinny frame. I purchased a medium which fit absolutely perfect over my layers. For cold expeditions, do yourself a favor and buy this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome jacket. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been hunting for a down puffer that was a little more abrasion resistant than standard DWR coated nylon. This has reinforced shoulders and upper arms and its waterproof and windproof as well. Incredibly warm and comfortable. I'm 5'10" 155 lbs and the medium fits perfectly. The length is great, as it hangs far enough to properly insulate below the belt without having it interfere with leg movement in the thighs. Love it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Almost a great coat Tried a Large and like other reviewers have found, the underarm area is too small and is uncomfortable with only a thin shirt underneath. The sleeves are a little long, but may be desired to keep the wrists covered during lots of movement. It looks great and has good features. Had to return due to the tight underarms. 6'1", 200 lbs, medium to muscular build. Wear a Medium to Large shirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally found a warm jacket I went through so many ski jackets, the very best...North Face, Patagonia, Arc'teryx so forth. Maybe I just chose poorly but regardless I skied in this coat a few times last year at Mammoth(pre-COVID) and one of those days, with wind chill, it was -7F and my torso with a t-shirt(thinsulate) and heavy base layer from Columbia long sleeve and this jacket I was toasty all day. Too bad the coat didn't cover my hands because they were icicles. Anyway the fit, I am 5'11" 210lbs weight lifter and oddly enough I never noticed the under arm pinching that a few other reviews noted. Perhaps now that I know it will become more apparent, I hope note. The net, for me a pretty persnickety ski jacket connoisseur I am overjoyed with this selection. One note, when the temp was above 30F I was hot so just reduced the base layer, etc. Great jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but armpit area too tight Love this jacket but arm pit area is designed very poorly and has slim fit. Too high and small so they ride up and I don’t have big arms. Other than this jacket is well made, very warm and lots of pocket space.
