Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket SIZING I'm 5'8", 190 pounds and spend a lot of time in the gym. Most jackets don't fit me well. Here, however, the M and the L fit well. The M looked great but was tight enough that I couldn't layer. The L still looks great (albeit less fitted) but I can layer with ease. Went with the L. PERFORMANCE I'm shocked at how warm this jacket is. It is extremely thin and light but wonderfully comfortable. Seattle rain doesn't faze the jacket but in a total downpour, I'd probably go with my hard shell. Jacket is totally windproof and the microfleece lining is terrific. Polartec powershield is an amazing fabric.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multipurpose jacket It was a topsy turvy winter in US this year, with extreme temperatures in a week (38-58 Farenheits). The shield jacket alone offered enough warmth without getting stuffy and kept me rather comfy. At a cool room (68 F), it felt slightly warm when walking, but comfortable when stationary. What wasn't expected was 1) the size - well fitting, so it will have to serve as a base layer jacket; can't wear it over another jacket. 2) weight- very light. It was lighter and slimmer than my other technical windstopper-fleece that I was almost worried it can't provide any warmth at all. 3) water resistance ability is quite amazing. I flick water on it and it curdles into a ball of water, rolling on the surface of the jacket. For now, I am very pleased with this purchase, and believe it will out for further tours and hikes in Asia as well! Of course, I believe this jacket is not meant for minus zero temperatures use, but it's fitting enough to add another layer on top. My best versatile jacket purchase thus far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall very happy - very good but could be great The jacket is noticeably thin and light, but surprisingly warm as well as wind and water resistant. As the colder weather appeared it was apparent this jacket does not provide enough warmth in temperatures below 60F in my opinion (I've since purchased a Gravity jacket to get me through the Winter). The sizing for me is also a little challenging. I'm 5'11 175lbs (size 42 suit and 15.5x33 dress shirt) and the Medium is form fittingly tight and the Large is loose but wearable. The jacket is also noticeably longer than the Gravity soft shell and fits looser for the same size. I've included this jacket in my rotation for Spring and Fall as well as using it as a 2nd layer over a lightweight down jacket. If the sizing and dimensions of the Shield were similar to the Gravity jacket, Marmot would have a truly great pair of soft shells for the entire year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tall and skinny. The small fits like a slim medium if you're used to Marmot's old sizes. The sizes seem to be the same width of their old cuts but with longer torso and sleeve lengths. Being a tall skinny guy Marmot just made the perfect fit in this jacket for guys of my body type. Had to return the medium for a small. Being over 6' tall the small fits like a glove. No excess cloth in the mid section. I've never had a jacket that didn't balloon out around my torso. The only reason I didn't give the jacket 5 stars is that the sleeves are a little skinny. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wonderful jacket Initial impression is this is a really nice jacket with good wind resistance . Has a little stretch to it and it moves with you nicely. I'm 5'8" and 190# and the medium fits good- a bit tight through the chest area but with a lite shirt works perfectly. Mostly will use this for brisk walks on cool breezy days.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sleeves way too long I am often between L and XL, so ordered XL to allow for a little bit of layering, given this is a light jacket material. Was too small, very tight in chest for a "regular" fit/cut, but with crazy long sleeves. I don't see any way I could make any size work for me at 5'11", 185lb. As noted, material is thin, but because of odd sizing, I returned and did not have an opportunity to evaluate performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shell Great shell for the price. Stops wind and seems to do ok with water. I was surprised how breathable it was. Used it around town but also wore it skiiing with simple baselayer beneath. While it has a flannel type backing you’ll definitely need something underneath in colder temps. I have a Mens L and am a 42R, 34 waist. Regular fit was a little loose but allows layering. Very versatile jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A torchbearer's jacket I was lucky to snag the last one in my size. Orange is my favorite color and after an extensive search for the perfect light weight jacket for San Francisco, I was pleased to have come across this one. Unfortunately it's not carried in store but I tried on similar jackets to get a sense and have not been disappointed. It absolutely deflects wind and rain amazingly!
