The Marmot Women's Chelsea Coat is a long, waterproof, insulated jacket for battling the winter storms. The Chelsea looks innocent enough, with its mid-thigh length, feminine shape, and removable synthetic fur ruff, but it's really much more. It's built with 100% seam-taped, 2-layer MemBrain® construction and 100% polyester herringbone fabric. The result keeps you dry and warm in snow, sleet, and just plain cold weather, as it is waterproof and windproof. The inside is packed with 700 fill power down to insulate against the cold, without adding unnecessary bulk. Change your style with a simple zip, as both the hood and the fur trim are removable, so you can go with or without fur and with or without hood. Microfleece lines the two zippered handwarmer pockets and you'll also find soft microfleece internal cuffs wrapping your wrists softly. Zip up and head to school, work, the store, or wherever else you need to go this winter.

Product Reviews
Rated 4 out of 5 by from (Nearly) exactly what I was looking for This coat is (nearly) exactly what I was looking for. It is much warmer than the down-only coats that I was considering but still looks trim and stylish. Plus, the outer layer provides water and wind resistance. The hood sits a little low on my face, but there is space for a hat. Also, the pockets are a bit too far forward so that it's a bit awkward to insert my hands. In the end, the functionality and style of this coat so far outweighed all (all!) the others that I had tried. I've not only been getting compliments on the quality of the coat, I've gotten specific requests for ordering information. I hope they get it in another color so we don't all look alike!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tiny hood The hood is very very tiny and presses the top of my head. It also leaves your cheeks and forehead totally exposed because it is so "short". I live in Finland where we get everything from -20C to sleet to +5C and rain during winter. This hood would never cut it. Yes, it really is very bad. Otherwise the jacket is brilliant. The sleeves are long enough and the fit is ok. (I'm 174cm tall and ordered a size M which fits perfectly at the shoulders and would work with or without a sweater underneath). The look&feel of the outer material is ok - not luxurious, but not cheap looking either. So, a painfully badly designed hood ruins an otherwise good jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised I kept hearing so/so reviews, so here’s my two cents. The coat is surprisingly light which had me worried. ALL FOR NOTHING. It’s kept me warm on some of our most frigid winter days. I don’t find it noisy at all (other reviews mentioned this). It’s got a flattering fit, while allowing for layering. The one gripe I do agree on is the hood. It’s strangely small, and difficult to get over your head. If you zip the collar all the way up, it feels a little stiff around the neck and you won’t be able to wear a scarf underneath. Even with these little glitches, I’m really happy I bought it and satisfied it will follow me through many winters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm, Fitted Shape, Disproportionate I bought this for the cold, windy, New England weather. Unfortunately, this jacket has arrived during a random warm spell (57 degrees out and sunny). I tried it on, regardless, and I love how fitted it is. I'm a small frame, weighing 125lbs and being 5 ft 7, I appreciate having something fitted. I ordered an XS for that reason. Only issue is that the sleeves are too short for my long arms and the hood is very tight (that's great for those who want the warmth) but it's uncomfortable for me. I get headaches with tight headwear and sunglasses. I love the material and the quality seems durable. It is very warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm - Great for Chicago Commuters I bought this coat following a slushy snow storm where my super warm Patagonia coat could not keep my dry. I was choosing between this one and NF Arctic Parka. The Chelsea is significantly longer (knee grazing) than the Arctic Parka (about 4 inches above the knee) and is much more roomy its NF counterpart. I commuted to work this morning with a temperature of -3F and wind chills of -20F, even crossing the Chicago River. Every part of me that was covered by the Chelsea remained warm. A few notes on the hood. It's the best ever! With a hat underneath, the hood kept my head very warm without impeding my vision. Highly recommend this coat for cold weather commuters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and nice looking I was not sure which size to get, took a risk and ordered online after reading other reviews. I am 5'2 and 133 lbs, I got Medium size and it fits well. Surprisingly, the sleeve length is just right. The coat is really warm: on recent freezing cold New York days it kept me warm with a light sweater inside. I do not hear any noise other reviewers noted when I walk and the coat does not seem prickly. I also like that the logo positioning is subtle - just at the bottom of the left sleeve. The only odd thing is that I can't zip the coat to the top of my regular size neck. My husband has a similar style men's coat and he can't zip his coat to the top either.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not well made: cold spots and shedding I bought this coat about one month ago, and I submitted appositive review too early. The coat is now shedding small feathers constantly. I need a lint brush for my wool pants in particular. If you look at the lining, feathers come out of the stitching for the quilting. The coat also has multiple cold spots around the shoulders and arms, which get very cold when you are outside in temperatures below 30. I am very, very disappointed. This was an expensive purchase for me, and I consider it to be an absolute waste. I will need to buy a different coat for next winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this coat specifically for taking my dog out in the cold NYC winters. Going to the dog park means sitting outside for an hour. This coat is great for that, lightweight but warm. Other reviewers have noted that the hood is shallow, which I actually don’t mind because I can have it up but still have peripheral vision. An unforeseen benefit is the 2 way zipper. When I go down to pick up his #2 the zipper will open a bit to make squatting down easier. It also prevents strain on the zipper. I’ve only had it a few weeks but I look forward to using it all season.
