Great Michigan winter boot.Awesome, fit and finish were top notch. Spent the first day with them on a winter trail, about 11 miles. Then on and off snowmobile the next day. Little snow shoveling too. All and all these kept my feet dry, as far as warmth goes there just warm enough when wearing light weight socks like I did in 30 to 40 degree weather like in the hike, it gets cooler than that then I just switch to a winter sock my size 13 in the size 13 boot seem to work well doing that. And as I had mentioned I wore these within a day after I got them so that was a risk but to my surprise I had no issues. Love the easy on/off the zipper allows for and the lightweight design.

Fantastic winter bootsThese are, without a doubt, the best boots, winter or otherwise, that I have ever owned. Incredible slip resistance, ultra warm (I use them in minus 20F), and really good fit. I am the person who normally DESTROYS a pair of shoes/boots in a matter of 3-4 months due to the weather conditions I live in (I do a lot of trekking, walking etc in Aspen, Colorado); as well as my job which requires me to be outside in the worst conditions.
These boots are the best thing for harsh conditions.
The marriage between the Vibram Arctic Grip soles and Merrell's bulletproof insulation and build quality yield a boot so capable you'll wonder why you didn't buy it sooner.
Highly, highly, recommended!!

Great. Really great. But not quite perfect.I love almost everything about these boots. They fit perfectly, They're as comfortable as I'd hoped. And they look and act like serious cold weather boots. So what's not to love? The hype. Are these better on ice than any other boot I've worn? Absolutely. Do they live up to their hype? Almost. I'd say they're 80% as good as promised in the demo videos. You still have to be careful, and there are times you will slip. But 80% of perfect is still better than anything else out there (that I'm aware of). And I can live with that. So go ahead and buy these. You won't regret it--unless you're expecting perfection.

Worth every penny!I bought this boot last year primarily for clearing snow from my sidewalks and driveway, as well as taking the dogs on their morning and evening walks. I absolutely LOVE this boot! They are unbelievably lightweight and keep my feet warm on all but the coldest mornings (below zero F). They are great for walking and the traction is excellent even on ice. It's like having an athletic shoe as a winter boot.
If Merrell could do one thing to improve this boot, it would be to offer it in Wide. I have some issues with bone spurs in my toes and when they my feet swell, the toe box gets too snug.

Lightweight, warm, good tread.Light weight boot that keeps your feet warm and has the cold pack ice tread. Exactly what I’ve been looking for but apparently women don’t need all three of these characteristics. Maybe as a woman I don’t spend enough time outside working hard like a man or something so I had to order these boots for myself. It would be nice if Merrill would recognize that women also need a boot that keeps their feet warm, has a cold pack tread like a man, and it’s lightweight. I bought them for my husband and sons over Christmas and they were raving about them. Since you don’t make women’s boots with all three characteristics, I bought them and I like them. They’re comfortable. Did I mention that I would love it if you could do the same thing in a woman’s style?

Arctic Grip Soles Do Not DeliverThe shoes are comfortable and seem to fit well. I bought them specifically because i wanted to try the "Arctic Grip" soles made by Vibram. I was especially impressed by the Vibram video which shows people walking up a very icy incline with no slippage at all. Well, I can say without reservation that the soles are HORRIBLE on an icy downhill slope of any kind. I took a nasty fall with them on ice with a slight downhill slope. So don't buy the shoes thinking that you will not slip and fall on ice....because you will.

Not WaterproofThis boot is definitely not waterproof. I noticed the first time I wore this boot in wet weather my left foot was getting wet. Another review on here said the zipper is not waterproof. Either my pair is defective or the zipper design on this boot is poorly designed .
Overall, I am disappointed with this purchase because I bought the boots specifically to keep my feet dry and warm in wet weather.
If you need to keep your feet dry, I suggest purchasing one of the boots without a zipper.

4 bleeding sores after walking 4 miles! :(Just about all of my footwear purchases are Merrells as I love them and probably have over 20 pairs right now but these winter boots are a huge disappointment.
We've had a lot of snow recently and I made the mistake of taking a 4 mile walk in these and after the 1st mile, I began to feel the rigid plastic stabilizer cutting into both sides of my ankle bones on both feet but foolishly pressed on for 4 miles and when I took them off, had 4 bleeding sores.
So, pretty much these are only usable to maybe go outside to get the mail, etc.
If anyone from Merrell reads this and knows what I am talking about and has a suggestion for a better pair of winter boots, I would welcome the info.
