Dont lastBeen buying merrells my whole adult life I hike mountains and work at outdoor camps. Picked up a pair moans at a used gear store when I was 12 and wore them 2 years and that was preused. I have since have been buying boots. I tried the outmosts last year being cheap and you get what you pay for. I decided in may to get these moab 2 mid gore-tex. Figured they would be great. They were but 6 months later it's the end of november and my soles are coming off. I plan to glue them back on but that never works long. That's 0 for 2.
I will say I bought my dad a pair of phaserbound 2 tall waterproof boots and they have held up great since may.

Great hiking boot, limited lifespanThey're a great lightweight, comfortable and waterproof hiking boot. However, the sole is somewhat thin for hiking on sharp rocks and they run a half size too small. After almost 2 years of use, the sole separated from the rest of the boot and they were no longer waterproof. I contacted Merrell and went through the warranty process, and they sent me a brand new pair a half size bigger! Overall, would definitely recommend the boot for its comfort, but even more so because Merrell stood behind their product, which is rare these days. From my experience, I would definitely recommend this boot, as well as this company to any friends or family.

Great Boot but Quality DeclinedThis is my fourth or fifth pair of mid boots in the Moab line. I still have all my older pairs as they have held up very well. Even though they are dirty and worn they still hold together so I use them as work shoes, water shoes etc and they still keep going until the soles are worn slick. This last time I bought the Gore Tex Model and while I'm well passed any warranty date, the sole is coming off and based on the last pairs wear, I had a few months of wear to go. Like I said, I love these boots and will probably keep buying Merrells but they were the perfect boot up until this pair.

Save Your Money Unless You like Wet Feet!I've worn Merrell boots for years, have several pairs, and have bought them for my wife and son. These boots are a replacement for a pair of waterproof MOABs which weren't waterproof. These boots are comfortable, look good, and leak. They've probably got 4 months of sporadic use as a daily boot and for light hiking and camping. I don't know why Merrell can't seem to make a pair of waterproof boots that actually are waterproof! They're Gore-tex!
For the record, these started leaking while walking through wet grass. No rain, no rivers or streams, wet grass. It's too bad that quality and Merrell boots can't be uttered in the same sentence. Sorry Merrell, never again.

A hikng boot that is EVERYTNING I was hoping forIt's not often that you can get your cake and eat it too. The Moab 2 GORE-TEX is just that! They wear like slippers straight out of the box. Did 6 mile hike first time wearing and not so much as a hint of rubbing, foot fatigue or unwanted stiffness. Have done several other 3 - 5 mile jaunts and still fantastic AND holy cow.. a boot that is REALLY waterproof. Not a drop of moisture after many purposeful attempts to test the Gore-Tex. Only surprise was that unlike every other boot I've purchased the Moab 2 Wide Width is legitimately Wide. Silk sock liner and quality wool sock makes the wide width perfect, just the way I like them. Highly resommend the Moab 2 Mid GORE-TEX Wide Width.

Worst ShoesI have been using Merrell shoes for the last 10 years and these are the worst. They were purchased 6-8 months ago and are already falling apart. The damaged area is towards the front plastic portion. I could see this happening to a cheap set of shoes but not to a Merrell. They get 2-3 days of usage a week and at the most 4-6 hours of wear time, walking distance maybe 3-5 miles per day. Depending on weather sometimes not even once a week. They are of such poor quality that I’m thinking of going back to Salomon. Merrell please go back to your old standards, I’m only one customer and I know it won’t make that much of a difference but my money is going somewhere else. Thanks

Sizing InformationMy review is to assist others with sizing choices. The Moab Ventilator low and the Moab mid high gore-tex both fit identically.
In Moab's the best fit for me is the 9.5 wide (2E). To compare, in New Balance 990s the same fit is provided by a 9.5 extra wide (4E). And in Brooks Cascadia I have to size up to a 10 wide (2E).
So for me at least, the wide (2E) in Merrell Moab is about the same as a 4E in New Balance (which is very good in my case).
And as expected, the Gore-Tex keeps feet much warmer than the ventilator (good in winter, but not in summer).

Noise when walking with Merrell MOAB 2 hiking shoesMy Merrell MOAB 2 J06057 hiking shoes make a flip flop noise when walking. I bought two pairs of these in late 2019 and recently started wearing them in 2020 and they make this noise as though I was wearing flip flops. What is causing this? I tried removing the inner soles, but the noise persists. I thought it might be they need to be broken in, but after about 20 miles walking on each, the noise is still there. I have owned several pairs before this and have never had this issue until now. They fit great, but I am reluctant to buy another pair until I can understand what is causing this noise and know how to get rid of it
