A disappointing "upgrade" to a classic.Merrell changed the shoe geometry on the Moab 2 such that the mouth of the shoe is now larger than on the original Moab. They also removed one of the double eyelets at the mouth of the shoe. Combined, this has resulted, at least for me, in the total inability to lock my heel down no matter how much I tighten the laces. I'm now getting hot spots due to the sloppy fit. The first gen Moab fit me really well and was my main hiking shoe for several thousand miles of hiking and backpacking. For me, the Moab (2) Ventilator (size 11, low, wide) is no longer a viable hiking shoe, and for the first time in a number of years, I'm looking at other brands.

Disappointing replacement for my original Moab LowI don't know why it's necessary to "improve" on perfection. I needed to replace my Moab's only because of wear, I loved them from the moment I put them on! So the reasonable thing to do was grab another pair, however they upgraded to the Moab 2. Where the original were comfortable from the beginning, the Moab 2 were uncomfortable from the start. Thinking it was a matter of wearing them in I kept at it. My feet hurt, my knees hurt, I couldn't believe how bad they work for me, and now it's too late to return them. I'm back to wearing my old Moabs, I'll probably just donate the new ones and move on.
Bring back the Moab and I'll be back!

Moab 2 , pain is back 2nd dayHave moab 1 for years and that was the only shoes not causing any pain in th e back or my flat feets. Now upgraded to moab 2 and the pain is back, my feet my back after few hours can't wait to get home to take off this shoes, also feets are so wet not cool as in original moab and no support to arch at all. Do not know why marrell did this and destroyed the perfect moab 1 with removing them and upgrading them with this. Maybe cost saving I guess it cost less to made this new one but not good and I wish j can buy 10 more moab 1 for years to come. Will throw this one in the garbage cant stand any longer in them.makes me so nervious from the pain that it is causing .

The Happy Shoe Wearer from
Best Thing Since Sliced BreadAfter trying so many different brands, wife told me about Merrill shoes. OMG they are so comfy! A little, just slightly larger than my normal size of 12 4E but it’s a good thing. With diabetes my feet tend to swell up from time to time. When they arrived I rushed to put them on. Foot pain I had with my Nike Airs was gone. I’ve had these on all day, no pain. An they look like they should last awhile. It’s like a soggy dream come true! Gonna order me another pair cause with my luck, they’ll either sell out or stop making them. Never been so happy about a pair of shoes.lol Also Jessica in the customer service online chat was very helpful.

Moab 2 toebox too narrowI've hiked in Moab ventilators for years (like going on 15). The Moab always seemed to fit perfectly until I tried the Moab2. I don't have a wide foot (have always word regular width), but I noticed at first they were much more tight on the toes than my old pair. Have tried them on several hikes to try and break in, but the last hike was too painful, I was practically limping back to the car. To me, the front toebox is more narrow than the previous Moabs. Thinking it was only that particular pair, went and tried on another Moab2 and the same thing noticed. Really disappointed because it was the best low hiker.

DisapointingI have worn Merrell's for years and have always been very happy with them. I used them for hiking, work, and just everyday general use and not a complaint. I had a pair I purchased in 2016 before I deployed, wore them in the desert, used them for training and they lasted until earlier this year. l So I was upset when I noticed that the most recent pair I purchased, the Moab, where falling apart. The shoe is separating from the soul and the traction on them is not very good. I've had this pair for only 5 months and had worn them sparingly throughout the summer. I only just began wearing them more often within the past 3 months. I am very disappointed in these shoes and will not purchase them again.

Just bought my 4th pair in 6 yearsThey last about 14-16 months on the bottom sole. This is with everyday of hard use and being thrown in the washer once a week and pressure washed often. I use to buy regular tennis shoes and would have to replace every 6 months due to knees and lower back hurting even with orthopedic insoles. The insoles on these shoes are horrible though, but as soon as I open the box they get thrown away and a pair of the best insoles I can find get placed in there. It takes about 2 weeks to break them in properly where the sole contours to the foot even though its Vibram.

disappointed in the change of a great shoeThe Moab Ventilator II is a very different shoe than my beloved original Moab Ventilator. I am very disappointed that Merrell has changed the original Moab Ventilator into one that I can no longer wear, due to the arch support being moved to have way the hill. Each year for several years I have bought a new pair of original Moab Ventilators. I have found NOS of the original Moab Ventilator online, but realize that this will probably be the last pair. I will not buy a pair of shoes that do not fit and the Moab Ventilator II's do not fit due to the improved arch support. Not sure what I will do next year but hope there is a Moab Ventilator III that will fit more like the original Moab Ventilator.
