Comfort vs durabilityI am a huge proponent of Merrell footwear. I have several pairs of Merrell shoes, I wear them intensely and the last and last.
I am now on my second pair of Moab Speeds, an incredibly comfortable shoe, worth the cost. Unfortunately the lack durability. The sole material is of a much lesser material than other shoes. I wore my first pair out in about two months. The soles just we gone. I’ll see how my second pair holds up.
I would highly recommend that Merrell consider replacing the current more porous bottom sole material with a denser rubber. It would drastically increase the value of this otherwise wonderful shoe!!!

This is a great shoe! With only one review, I was taking a chance, but boy was I rewarded! I walk briskly on the roads and paths in our neighborhood, and also on the trails in the hills nearby in Sonoma County, CA. These are the perfect shoes for me. I knew the fit of my other Moabs, but wanted something lighter, with enough cushion for the roads. Out of the box, I did a 5 mile walk, and loved the shoes immediately. A couple of days later, I wore them for a 5 mile hike in the hills, with the same result. These are now my favorite shoes, and I highly recommend them.

It's Like the All-Wheel Drive of Hiking Shoes!I started using Merrell's back in 2015 just because I live and work in the mountain ranges of Northeastern California. We have four seasons here and there are times when the snow and ice are just too much for "regular" footwear. Not to mention a lot of rugged terrain. I have relied on my MOAB boots and low cuts to give my feet the protection and comfort I need but I have always longed for a pair of Merrell's that would give me better everyday extended-walking comfort. I finally found that in the MOAB Speed. It's like the All-Wheel Drive of hiking shoes! It helps me stay on my feet, comfortably, the whole day at work.

Trail boss from
Great from the startI got these right before a trip to Alaska in May. I felt that the sizing was slightly bigger than expected and with a thin sock and then a wool sock they fit great. The toe space was more than ample, maybe too much for my foot specifically. They get 5 stars because I wore them on trails that were muddy, wet, snow pack, ice, and a few dry ones. No slips, no extra cramp-ons/yak-traks for traction in any of it. They repelled water and kept my feet dry-ish but warm. Only dryish because snow or rain would come down from the top and get smashed in when I post holed 3 feet in. Not the shoe's fault. I never had a break in period and never needed it. They worked great right out of the box and very supportive. I definitely recommend them.

Best ‘light hiking’/everyday wear shoes I’ve foundI find that “wide” shoes are rarely wide enough (unless you can order 2E, 4E etc. or similar ‘extra wide’ sizes). These are perfect. I have moderately ‘wide’ feet. These are very comfortable, I’ve been wearing Merrill’s almost exclusively for the last 25 years. I”m convinced they are the best shoe for the money. Killer colors! Look great and are the best new shoes I’ve had in years. Very, Very comfortable! I can’t recommend them enough. And the soles are nice and grippy and last forever too. You will not be disappointed. You definitely get your moneys worth with Merrells.

Very disappointed! This is actually the first pair of Merrell shoes that I have truly been disappointed in. I never actually got to where out of the house before having issues with them. Both shoes came with the insoles kinked at the arch which makes them uncomfortable. On top of that one of the eyelets ripped upon trying to tighten the shoes on one of my first times trying the shoes on in the house. Overall I’m truly disappointed in these shoes, and wish I had gone with something completely different as I am now left with a pair of shoes I cannot use.

Run!I use these as running shoes. I began running in hiking shoes a while back when I accidentally discovered that having a rock-plate in my shoe helped save me from the unresolved foot pain that had sidelined me for years. The downside, of course, is that hiking shoes are heavier and more cumbersome than running shoes. So, what a revelation these light and nimble shoes turned out to be! Protective and fast - who knew!? I agree with other comments about the heel slip- which I’ve noted in other Merrill shoes. But I’ve learned that by planting the heel end and elevating the toe while tying the laces, I can avoid it, and actually gain a touch more space in the already roomy-enough toe box. This shoe is a win for me. Can’t wait to hike!

Everything I wanted in a trekkerFit, features, and quality of the construction are everything I was hoping for based on the numerous reviews I screened before purchasing. While reasonably comfortable right-out-of-the-box they became progressively more enjoyable after 25-30 miles of trails with a 10 kg pack. I agree with other reviewers that the laces are a bit long. Nonetheless, these are now my go-to's for every trek - be it pavement or trail. This is now my 11th pair of Merrell shoes, and with the exception of dress shoes, nothing else goes on my feet.
