The Merrell Men's Vapor Glove 5 Shoe is a minimalist shoe for running. Stay close to the ground and even closer to your natural state. Barefoot state that is. Skip the socks and put foot to trail with 2mm lugs and a Vibram Ecostep 30% recycled rubber outsole between you and the dirt. A mesh and TPU upper hold up against the debris while allowing air to flow as you pick up the pace.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hillrunner from Most comfortable barefoot shoe. This is the best enclosed “barefoot” shoe available to date. After running in this, putting on a regular sneaker or shoe feels like a straight jacket. I did find these a bit narrow in the toe box, despite not having a wide foot and ordered my “regular” size instead of sizing up ½ - 1 full size for running. That was a mistake and now I know to size up ½ a size for these shoes. Other than that, I cannot think of what else I would otherwise run in. These foster running naturally - it expends less energy and feels like having much more padding than any of those highly designed padded “running” shoes that cause bad form and injury.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Spudz from The Best I've worn vapor gloves 2, 3, and 4, but this is by far the best. Fit is a little smaller than expected (size 13). Basically, I could get away with wearing socks with the previous versions, but have to go without socks with the VG5. This isn't really a problem, though, because of the soft seamless interior. On top of that, this is the first shoe I've ever worn that did not need to be broken in. Felt comfortable from day one, and continues to feel good after about 100 miles of city running. Merrell, please listen to your customers when they tell you that you have a winner on your hands. Don't change a thing. 10/10

Rated 1 out of 5 by Barefoot Guy from Quality Control gets worst each year I've been buying the Vapor Glove for now over 8 years and fell in love with them, the light weight, the response to ground to foot. But in the last 3 years the Quality Control on the shoes has deteriorated to the point I can no longer bring myself to purchase them. I purchased the last pair just a couple months ago, the tongue stitching came apart after one wear. The pair before that the sole started to separate almost immediately, and the pair before that the same issue with the separation of the sole. Its like an old girlfriend, you have found memories of them but you know that the fit no longer there and it's time to move on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Matthew from Reality I’m just going to put this into bullet form for the sake of simplicity. - I’ve been wearing vapor gloves/trail gloves for like 10 years now - The best model was the TG 2, but the VG 3 was a close second - Vapor glove 4 was trash - All trail gloves after the 2 have been trash - I can confirm that the VG 5 is a half-size large - I like the VG 5 so far; the sole is better, and it feels like the upper is sturdier - Regardless of the above, the reality is that I’m going to keep wearing Merrell’s for the indefinite future. So, please, Merrell, if you read this, give me some fun colors.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mike from Narrower and smaller than vapor glove 4's I loved my vapor glove 4's so much that I ordered severs pairs of these when they popped up. And even though I ordered a size larger than I have my vapor glove 4's in they are a fairly tight fit. Merrell has made the toe box narrower in this version more like other typical shoes and have deviated from this being a true barefoot shoe. It is still barefoot by being zero drop and having a thin sole. But the narrower toe box and reduced volume (space above your feet) make them quite tight and a departure from the Vapor glove 4 shape. Probably a great shoe for some, but much different than the 4's if you were a fan of those.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Unhappy Buyer from Cannot 'Deal' With Lacing 'Design' This is the 4th or 5th pair of Vapor Gloves I've bought. In all honesty, I must say I find the latest lacing design at the very best disappointing. Please know that I am 'old,' so slow to grasp 'progress.' Nevertheless, I find the silly aspect of replacing the ancient idea of lacing a shoe with 'eyelets' made so much more complex, and so frustratingly difficult to lace and tighten it just isn't worth the effort! Brand new, my 'Glove 5's' found their way to the church donations bag after a couple of attempts to lace them. Each time I look (wistfully) at your site for Vapor Gloves with eyelet lacing, I end up searching the Web for other brands.

I always had issues with skinny running shoes with my wide feet. It feels like Merrell used my foot to create these! They really are like a glove! Not to mention they are head turners. I see strangers look at my feet and all my friends comment on them. On the road they are incredibly comfortable, they reduce heel striking, and strengthen my feet. I will never buy another brand of shoe again, mark my words! Merrell for life! (Now it's time to run so hard that Merrell will sponsor me on the trails! wink wink).

Rated 5 out of 5 by John Garvens from A new barefoot favorite I wanted to find a replacement for my battered Vapor Glove 3s that I bought after I destroyed my Vapor Glove 2s. After a few weeks of wearing them, the Vapor Glove 5s are my new favorite. There is minimal padding and zero drop in the shoe. Additionally, Merrell used a different material for the upper, which I like a lot because the old material seemed to wear down very quickly. The new material has the rugged feel of a nylon gym bag and seems like it will last a lot longer. I walk five to seven miles a day in the Vapor Glove 5s while walking my dog and find them supremely comfortable, wearing only a thin pair of socks.
