Moab 2 Ventilator is the perfect shoe for meThis is my third pair of Merrell Moab Ventilator sneakers. Having had bilateral foot pain for years I thought my walking days were over. With the help of an excellent podiatrist and custom orthotic inserts, I came across the Moab sneakers in just my size a couple of years ago. The orthotics fit perfectly in the shoe. There is very good support, plenty of toe room and a firm sole, just what I needed. I am now back to daily walking, slow jogging, along with another pair to wear reserved for gardening, Just to be on the safe side, I also ordered a spare pair for down the road. So glad I found this shoe and hope Merrell continues to sell them.

The only pair of hiking boots that fits me!I have tried all the low hiking boots on the market, and am so relieved to finally find a pair that is wide enough for my moderate bunion. I am normally a size 8, but I had to go into a 9W in this boot. I have always had wide feet, but the bunion adds to the wideness. The boot is surprisingly not too long for my foot. The length is perfect. They are lightweight enough. They feel kind of clunky walking around my house, but no more so than any other hiking boot. I removed their insole and put my custom orthotics in, and I have plenty of room in the toe box. I have not gone hiking yet to really put them to the test. When I do, I will update my review.

Great for rock scramblesI bought my Moab 2 ventilators last fall but didn't use them until a trip to Sedona. Didn't even break them in before hitting the trails. We hiked moderate trails but one hard trail, Bear Mountain. Forty-three miles hiked in 5 days over rocky terrain and OMG these shoes are freakin' awesome. Great traction. Not one blister like in the past. The next day after the hard hike at Bear Mountain, my feet felt great. Love the wide toe box. I did go 1/2 size up and good wool blend hiking socks. Didn't get as much red dust in them as my old Merrell hiking shoes. Got these at a great price last fall. Well worth the money. I highly recommend!

Changed the shoe design - not comfortableI've been wearing Merrell hiking shoes for years - originally a style no longer made, then went with the Moab. I wear them daily, and buy 2 new pairs every year, year and a half. The Moab 2 is a redesigned shoe - the heel cup is a different shape, the upper is also different, and my foot is held differently so the arch support is off and the whole thing is uncomfortable. I used to be able to wear them right out of the box. Now, not at all. I am extremely disappointed. I don't understand why the redesign. On Zappo's there are a number of women saying the same thing - I didnt believe them until I got my pair today.
So, now I am no longer a Moab wearer, after, what, 10 years? 15?

Comfortable Fit ImmediatelyI don't remember every having a pair of day hikers that felt so comfortable and supportive the first time I wore them. No break in period needed. My friend was hiking in her new Merrill day hikers but different style than mine and they were not as comfortable. She felt she had to break them in for awhile. So if you want a pair of day hikers that feel like you have been hiking in them for years the first time you put them one, then this is the pair for you. I did size up because I wear a liner and a thicker pair of socks. Has great arch support and narrow heel so my heels do not rise up when hiking. After a 5 mile hike I had no blisters and my feet felt great!

ahhhhLet me start by saying that I wear these everywhere and with everything except my church dresses. I've worn out two pairs walking dogs on country roads in summer and city sidewalks in winter. Two years ago, we began spending our summers in the country. I took my first walk in tennis shoes and felt every rock. It was then that I bought my first pair of MOAB 2 in 6M. They were a bit snug but such an improvement over tennis shoes. Later, I learned that they came in wide, so I got 6W. While the extra room felt like heaven, the insoles weren't great. Powersoles fixed that problem but made the toebox a bit tight. Now that these are worn out, I'm going with 6.5W with Powersoles.

Great hikersFirst I have to admit that I do have a problem with my feet, so as not to blame Merrell. These hikers are great for anyone whose feet tend to "turn" or twist while walking. I noticed that my feet tend to turn in and they weren't able to do that with these hikers. Also, they almost forced my foot into it's correct position, thereby improving my overall balance and posture. The only thing I didn't like was that they don't feel like they have any cushion inside at all. The sole is very hard so I have put some padded insoles in them, but they still feel hard. That could be due to my problem with my feet so please don't hold that against the shoe. Give them a try, you'll be happy you did!

Not the sameThe Moab has been the only shoe that I can wear over the last 2 years due to some foot issues. It was time to get another pair but when I tried it on, something was different. It felt tight in the toe box and the worse part, they changed the insert material. It is now a different material that is hard, less flexible and doesn't cushion the foot. I was fortunately able to find an older version at a local outdoor store but I don't know what I'm going to do when I need to replace that one. I literally wear this shoe everywhere and I might have to start my search over for another brand.
