Super warm boots!I bout a half size up for sock room, but I didn’t need it. These are so warm that one layer wool socks done the trick. I wore them straight out of the box onto a 3 day backpacking trip to the summit of Cold Mountain. My feet never got cold, no blisters or hot spots. The grip is incredible, even across frozen branches they never slipped, plus I had to step in the water from time to time and my feet never got wet. 3000 feet in less than 5 miles and my feet were comfortable on the way up and down. I LOVE these boots and would love to have the other color!

Excellent purchase, quality productI love these boots very much! Since I got them, I've been walking on the beach 5 or so days a week, for about 3 miles. Due to the rubber bottoms, I can actually walk in the water in CT in February and not feel the cold! I don't go very deep--just a couple of inches, but still! I also love that they fit more like a good sneaker or good hiking boot than a snow boot, giving me the stability that I want and need. Previously I had been wearing snow boots and my feet would really hurt at the end of the day, where as now I have no pain at all. I'm so glad that I bought these and will surely be wearing them for years.

No ankle supportBoth the tall and mid-height have the same flex design in ankle which results in the boot material bunching up (almost feels like thick leg warmers or something around ankle area, very strange and not comfortable.) While that may give max flex in ankle that also means no support, so not really what I want or need for snowshoeing or hiking. The tongue is fairly low where it connects too, so not sure how well it would do walking in snow without gaiters. Pic is of mid-height bunching, but the tall did the same thing, even with zipper.

Replacing first pairGot my first pair in college loved them so much I decided to replace them once I broke the zipper on my old ones. Other than that the old ones were still holding together fantastic even five years later. This pair is more comfy and easier to tie and of course still has the zipper. Great boots most likely going to buy a third time once these ones go out on me.

Poor DesignThese boots are very disappointing. There is definitely a design flaw with the ankle area. I had read other reviews that repotted the same issue but decided to take my chances. I wish I hadn’t! I only tried one boot on inside my house and could tell right away the the looseness and bunching in the ankle is a problem. To add to the disappointment, Merrell will charge return shipping to the customer. This was my first experience with Merrell and will definitely be my last.

Warm, comfortableI bought these for walking my dog in snow and ice, and they are perfect for that. My feet stay warm and dry and I get great traction. The zipper on one of them stuck a little at first but now that they've molded to my foot and have been put on and off many times, it works fine. I have narrow ankles & calves and a low-volume foot so I appreciate being able to adjust with laces. I added a lambswool insole for extra warmth since I have Reynaud's and my toes get cold very easily!

Great BootsI wore these boots on a 6 mile round trip hike up/down a mountain in the snow. I cross through some streams of water and my feet stayed dry. My toes did get a bit chilly when taking a break to eat but considering the cold temps (25° or colder), I feel the boots did a great job of keeping me warm and dry.

Such a bummer...I needed a pair of snow boots for the winter months and came across the Aurora 2. I love my Merrell shoes but these eye catching boots were not for me.
Size: true to size.
Vibram: cannot go wrong
Inside zipper: liked that they had a zipper although zipper, lace, bellow tongue is a weird fit. Did not like how they fit or the way they felt around ankle area even after adjusting the laces.
