The Mystery Ranch Hip Monkey Pack is an eight liter pack for hands-free carrying of your stuff. Clip it around your waist and it's ready to hang onto stuff you'd rather not have in your hands. Big enough to carry six golf discs, or even six bottles of beverage, though it won't keep them cold. Toss in your wallet and phone, maybe a packable ultralight rain or wind shell. Personally, I'd put my favorite toys and snacks.

Almost PerfectArrived last month and took it on an Overland trip. Enough space for a pistol, 500ml Nalgene, compact survival kit, compact first aid kit, tactical wallet and iPhone. Still space left over! Only reason not 5 stars is no longer made in USA, although I don’t have any complaints with quality... Second is there are no strap keepers for the loose waist belt ends so made due with some extras keepers kicking around although they’re really to small for this wide belt. For the trip, it hung behind my headrest, so can’t attest to comfort yet. Have a trip to Canada coming up and will test ability to ditch pack (MR ASAP). I’m biased, owning several MR pieces, but there’s a reason for that...!

Great Bag on your hip.Very durable hip bag that can carry a handy amount of stuff. I use it to carry tools while climbing for work. Have had it for about a year now and have had zero complaints. The belt clasp is strong and the belt itself is wide enough to provide secure distribution of the load without binding. If you are on the fence about buying this bag I suggest you do yourself a favor and pick up the Hip Monkey, you won't be disappointed.

wish there were a few more features, sent back[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to love this waist pack...its a good size, loved the color (yellow) but ultimately sent it back and ordered another brand. The compression straps should be placed either more at the middle of the pack or the top...where they are placed now are ineffective. A real downside is that when I cinched the pack around my waist, I had so much extra belt material, and it just hung there long. There were no bands or clips to hold the extra material in place. Also, cord that could be cinched on the outside would be useful to slip a layer of clothing under. With enhancements, this could be a great pack.

Versatile bum bagThis is a great bum bag made by the Ranch, it has traveled with me everywhere around the world. It is low profile but can be expanded, distribute weight balance perfectly regardless of worn around the waist (dorky but proven), chest (not so dorky, in fact "cool" in Asia), or shoulder (not the most comfortable). Plenty of pockets, organizer, and adjustability for different purpose. Mine is very old and has detachable shoulder strap, but I'd assume it is still identical in principle with the 2015 model...

Five stars, if only...I really like this pack, especially for biking around town, but wish that it had some straps or loops to corral the loose ends of the belt once you've tightened it down. Just a thought for future versions!

Simple and versatile[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Most review mentioned the size being too big especially as fanny pack. Am 5’7” average built and this pack is nearly perfect. When empty and cinched down, it’s low profile. It can easily swallow it all when required (and get heavy). Quick access pocket at the front have rainflap, preventing quick access. It’s also not gusseted so only for flatter item; tissue, passport, wallet? The main compartment has another flat zipper pocket. Overall minimal organisation so subject to user’s use case.
The only nitpick is the 2” strap. It’s too wide as over shoulder or sling mode but good as fanny pack. Also wish MR provides elastic strap keeper to manage the strap.

Very versatile, excellent performance[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This superb little bag fits a niche that is essential. It holds an 18 oz water bottle, that nests in an MSR titan cup, a Patagonia Houdini wind jacket, a small 6.75 x 10” closed cell foam sitting pad, a knife, a fire starter, sunglasses and some snacks. I could probably get more in there if needed.
It rides very comfortably and the two load compression straps keep it tight to the body so it has no bobbing motion. It is simple, Spartan and tough. The 8 L holds more than I thought but manages the volume and weight with its ingenious system. I use it mostly on the hips but it does make a dandy little shoulder bag too.

Great For Day Hunting/Day HikingI had my eye one this for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger not too long ago. Upon opening the box I was pleased with the construction of the product. I have put it to use and have been pleased as well. The materials are tough and the zippers are solid. The Hip Monkey has a main pouch with a "sealed" zipper, with an internal zippered pouch within. The main pouch is roomy enough to fit a small water bottle, binoculars, gps, snacks, and a compact rain jacket fairly comfortably. Game tags, extra batteries, and a compass are currently within the internal pocket. There is an external pocket as well, which can hold a knife, sharpener, headlamp, flashlight and other miscellaneous items quite comfortably well. What I am trying to get across here is that this thing is fairly roomy, which was an unexpected surprise. The external compression straps are a nice feature as well, but I don't foresee myself ever cranking them down much. The back pad is padded and the pack is comfortable to wear. My main gripe about the pack is that MR should have put a key ring in the internal pocket (on all of their packs as well) but that is just a minor issue. Overall, great quality, domestically made, affordable, roomy, and comfortable. Nice design MR.
I am trying to see if I could use this as a disc golf babe and was wondering if you knew how many discs it could fit? Thanks

Thanks for reaching out! This is a little tricky to answer. After doing my Disc Golf research, I am ,finding the discs themselves are about 9" in circumference. Since this Bag is only 8" high, I am not sure you would be able to zip it shut. Possibly if the discs are on a slant. I am estimating maybe 3-5 discs will fit. If you order and this Bag doesn't work out, just let us know and we will help facilitate your return. I hope this helps a little!
