Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It survived 2 years in West Africa! Living in West Africa, it was either humid and hot or dry and hotter. The Helios sun hat was literally a life saver - or at least a scalp and ear saver! My pewter hat faded to a very light grey under the constant sun. Near the end of my time there the fabric started to feel a bit brittle or crusty, but it was worn every day, soaked in sweat, soaked by rain storms and snatched off my head by the pet monkey. I ordered another once I got home. It (and a spare) will go with me on the next trip, guaranteed. The hat was comfortable, durable and protected my head from sunburn. Exactly what I wanted it to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from toughest hat i've ever had i wore this hat for 5 years daily, year round to work for a redi mix concrete outfit until i retired 6 months ago. i still wear it for mowing the lawn, etc. it's gotten washed weekly all that time, and it doesn't really even look any different. drawcord still keeps it on in the wind. it's pretty good in the rain, too, but it leaks after an hour or so. not meant to be waterproof either! wow! i have a new one ready to go in case it ever wears out..... we'll see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tip O'the Hat to OR!! Best sunshade hat on the market by far. Light-weight and easy to pack and fold, this hat is essential for my life in the sun. As a soon to be super model for OR, I keep my vintage complexion in catalog form with this hat. Seriously, it punches the sun away from your face, nose and ears and keeps you cool and lets your nugget breath better than any other hat out there. Quick drying too should you want to use it as a swamp cooler for your head. Again, lost my original to a high-speed extraction from Iraq, and immediately repurchased a new one after I got back home to the calm sunny serenity of New Mexico. You will love this hat, so go for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No This hat is very well made. Fantastic! In 2015 I bought a similar OR hat and loved it! Lost it. This OR hat is the closest in the online collection, but it is significantly different. The brim is a 3-4 centimeters smaller and cannot be shaped at all. The sweat band is white/beige and really stands out between the skull and the dark underside of the brim. With smaller dimensions and the pronounced white line under the brim it looks like a ridiculous beanie hat on me. I recognize that hats, like bathing suits, are highly individualized. The lesson I learned is never buy a hat online.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bomber construction and comfy for all day wear. For starters, I have had multiple compliments on the hat where ever it has been worn. Worn it at work. Had it out on the lake fishing. Wore it to a golf tourney. Wear it out on walks with the family. Have had various people tell me they really like the hat and have inquired about where to get it. Have wore the hat all-day long in various weather situations and have found it to be comfy and that it has breathed well the whole time. It is not water proof but has given decent reprieve from the rain while casting line at the lake side. Adjustable chin strap has been handy when out in stormy conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, great sun protection, well-made, versatile. Bought this to replace a heavier, similar styled hat. The Helios is very light, but well-made and does the job. Provides sun protection, water beaded up and ran off during a late-day shower, and was reasonably cool in warmer conditions. It would likely soak through in a real, prolonged rain, but the flexible brim also made it easy to flip my hood over for more protection. I bought it large enough that I could wear a thin fleece beanie underneath. The combination was pretty wind-proof and increased my warmth. The headband snugs up with a cordlock so I can adjust the size easily. I wore it constantly for several days and found it comfortable--though the cordlock in the back is noticeable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from outstanding product Purchased this hat over a decade ago for backcountry use. I have used it in deserts, heavy rainfall (dries fast), windy weather (draw cord is great for this), on glaciers and cascade mountain ascents for sun protection, traveled everywhere with it overseas. It folds nicely, lightweight, stitching has never come undone considering the heavy use. Retains it's shape when unpacked from extended storage. I live in eastern WA and jog with it as summers can average high 90's F. Great hat, it has never let me down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I hoped for! I was given this as a gift after having skin cancer removed from my face. I needed a good hat for sun protection. This hat was everything we had hoped for. It is much cooler than other hats I own including a wide-brimmed straw Panama hat, an Army 'Boonie' hat and a cotton floppy. It maintains its shape when traveling, cleans up easily and is a bit more stylish that my other options. I also like the drawstring that allows for adjustment to tighten it up in windy weather or loosen it up when the temperature is over 100. I wish I had saved my self the money on those other hats and purchased this one sooner.
