Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfortable, feature rich, waterproof shell Tried on a number of other comparable but more expensive products before this jacket and ultimately decided to go with this from Outdoor Research. I'm glad I did as I am much happier with this jacket. I would say true to OR Standard sizing, maybe even a bit more relaxed which is great as it allows layering underneath. I always pick the OR size Large and I'm 5'9 or 180cm and and athletic 180lbs or 80kg and a 33-34 in waist. Almost as comfortable as the OR Ascentshell but looks more burly. Only think I wish it has was the cool Warli Arcade belt from the rest of the OR Carbide line as I also got the glove. Now I just really want the Carbide Bibs, maybe next year :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the style, just seemed too thin for me. I love the style and the look, but this jacket just seemed like way too thin for me to use. I wanted to keep, it but ultimately sent it back with the tags on. It was so thin that it barely felt different than an ultralight rain jacket that I have. I realize it's a shell, but it seems even thin for a shell. Probably works just fine in the PNW where it's wetter, a little warmer, and there's more opportunity for touring and longer runs to get the heart rate up. But here in northern Michigan where we spend more time on the chairlift than our skis, it'd be hard to get by with a jacket this thin, even with with proper layering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy telemark skier Very happy with this jacket, have worn it skiing 'front side' 4x now in last week. Great value, and I can see why it has good reviews. It dumps heat very well, and at the same time kept me warm when temperature was cold, windy, and snowy. Like all the pockets, too. I am a telemark skier, so want to be able to dump that heat, and athletic. I will go BC and skin later this winter and I know this shell will be perfect. I like the layering as opposed to a jacket with a liner. I think I can get an overall lighter set up with shell and lightweight puffy down vest/jacket. The lower front pocket stashes my hestra gloves, when I'm getting ready. No problems with valuables in inner pocket or phone in outer upper pocket. I bought an XL. 44L, 16N 34/35 shirt size; 36W. I could probably get away with a large but I like the added length and I also wanted layers. doesn't feel too big. I like a longer/taller fit in a jacket. snow skirt works well plus there is a cinched The upper zip pockets work well with my backpack. I have an Osprey Kamber 22. I listed a 'con' as zipper...the front zipper is slightly finicky but by no means a 'show stopper' I would buy this again and am considering adding the carbide bibs now to the clothing 'quiver'

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome jacket on the hill. So far so good. Super water resistant in the wet PNW mountains, yet very breathable with the vents. Good amount of pockets keeps everything close to hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommend I use this jacket for backcountry skiing, downhill skiing, and snow play with the kids. You can't beat the comfort of this shell, it moves and stretches every way you can. I love the hideaway pockets for the powder skirt, they make this a great around town jacket, and anywhere on the mountain jacket. The hood is very spacious for any helmet, but feels a little too bulky when not wearing a helmet, even with all the adjustments. This might be my favorite OR shell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems mighty thin I love the style and the look, but this jacket just seemed like way too thin for me to use. I wanted to keep, it but ultimately sent it back with the tags on. It was so thin that it barely felt different than an ultralight rain jacket that I have. Even the main zipper pockets just go straight to thin mesh. I realize it's a shell, but it seems even light for a shell. Probably works just fine in the PNW where it's wetter and a little warmer, and there's more opportunity for touring and longer runs to get the heart rate up. But here in northern Michigan where we spend more time on the chairlift than our skis, it'd be hard to get by with a jacket this thin, even with with proper layering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shell! So far, so good after using it a few times in the backcountry. Stayed plenty warm in cold, windy (40mph) conditions with vest and base layer on. I'm 6'2" and built like a toothpick at 180lbs and the Large fits great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket, tight in the hips! Jacket fits great, fends off weather great, but it's tight around my butt/hips. I'm 5'11", 200lbs, wear a 36/32 pants and a Large in jackets and shirts. Arms, chest, stomach, etc... all fit great and allow for a base and mid weight layer, no problem. When sitting and squatting the bottom hem of the jacket is tight. It works and I hope the hem holds up!
