Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the wind and rain I took this on a 4 day hike in Patagonia, and never took it off! It does a great job at breaking the wind and against the rain. It is lightweight and breathable. I'm 6'1, 190lbs with a fit build, and got the XL and was very happy with the size. I feel like I have long arms and usually struggle with the sleeves being too short. This fit perfectly. I also liked having it a bit bigger so you can wear layers underneath it. Then if it starts to rain throw this on over. The built in stuff sack feature is super convenient. Absolutely recommend this for an active outdoorsman. Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lightweight Letdown I took this jacket hiking with me a few times, I'm glad it never rained on me or I would have been in trouble. I took this on a short hike while in Norway. It began to rain so I put it in. I felt that for about 15 minutes in a LIGHT rain, it did decent. After about 30 minutes and a medium rain, the jacket had become fully saturated and after about 45 minutes, soaked me through to my base-layer. Cold temps rolled in and, while disappointed, I became concerned for my safety. ,,,,I sprinted to the bottom of the mountain with arms numb, and a completely soaked torso. I had my hood up, and fully zipped the whole whole time. There was also a soapy film that was produced on the jacket after a while, is it actually waterproof or is there just a waterproof spray on the jacket? I have never washed it, and has only seen a few rains. ,,,,Let down by Outdoor Research who usually makes good gear. ,,,,Two stars since it dried quite fast once it was off. In the photo below I unzipped the jacket to show how

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best lightweight rain shell This is an ultra-lightweight shell that will keep you dry when it's raining and pack down small when it's not. It is fully waterproofed and surprisingly breathable and features a well-fitted hood. ,,,,This isn't a bomber shell. I don't take it if I'm going to be alpine climbing or winter backpacking (for that, I opt for the OR Mentor). That being said, the Helium II is the best shell on the market for ultralight and lightweight backpackers. It seems like it would also be a good one for sport climbers to throw in their pack in case rain hits. ,,,,I haven't had it long enough to vouch for its durability (it feels tough), but it's an OR product so they will take it back if there are any problems.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great concept, way too short I ended up having to return this jacket. Although it seemed very nice and like quality construction for the weight it was extremely short and wouldn’t cover even an average t-shirt completely. I have an average to maybe slightly long torso, so some may fair better. I’m not a pretty enough person to get away with constantly exposing my midriff and the lack of coverage would defeat the point of rain gear so it didn’t work out. I’m left wondering if OR skimped on length a bit to try to hit the lowest weight possible for this piece, since the main market for it is backpackers and other weight conscience athletes. I would recommend it to a shorter torso’d friend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great rain jacket! I bought this to replace another light, packable rain jacket that I had for a few years that was beginning to fall apart after fairly heavy use. So far, the OR light rain top is working out nicely. The material that it is made from appears to be very durable and meant to last many seasons. I field tested my jacket up here in a cold Alaskan spring shower while out on a hike and I am happy to say that it passed with flying colors. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight I like this jacket enough that I bought a second one. It’s super light, and provides great wind protection. I wore it during a couple of light rains and it kept me dry. I have not worn it on any significant activities (hiking, cycling, running etc.) but I have a friend who wears his running on rainy days and says it provides great protection. I usually wear my Outdoor Research Tantrum II for those activities. I wear mine mainly for a casual stroll on a windy/rainy day. I do wish it had hand pockets, but the single chest pocket is nice. Not having pockets didn’t detour me from purchasing another one. The cuffs are decent. Could be tighter as they can slip over my hands which can be annoying. Overall I like it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight magic This shell is the ideal climbing windshirt! It's light, waterproof (impressively so for its lightweight-ness) and it packs up quickly into a pocket. A clip makes it easy to clip to your harness, pack or whatever. ,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultralight backpackers dream If you are like me, you don't go hiking when the weather forecast calls for three to four days of solid rain. Most the time you never take your rain gear out of your pack, so why lug around a 14 to 18 oz. jacket that's just dead weight. This jacket will keep you dry no matter the conditions. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but it only weighs 6.5 oz. It also doubles as a great wind breaker or for a little extra warmth. You just can't beat the light weight and the quality. Big ups!
