Product Reviews

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Never buy if you need an actual WATERPROOF rain jacket Nice that it is light weight and sort of wind protective (ish). Used it on Mt. Whitney as a windbreaker, but honestly it wasn't that good. So I'll give it two stars instead of one. However, this is not a rain jacket as advertised. Not waterproof nor can it stand up to actual rain. Don't call it a rain jacket if it is not one OR or at least advertise its only good for a light drizzle as their customer service rep told me which I found hilarious as that appears no where on the product description. They make it sound like you can take into the backcountry for weeks on end in the worse conditions. Don't, you will be disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Might work in a light mist... I've used this jacket 6 times hoping somehow it would be better the next time, and it has failed to deliver as promised every time. I have used it cycling in moderate rain, hiking in light rain, and canoeing in moderate/heavy rain. Every use, it keeps out moisture for 5-10 minutes then starts to let it seep through and soak whatever is under it (bare skin, merino wool base layer, and thicker hoodie). It might be okay in a seriously light mist, but anything more than that and I felt the moisture in that cold/clammy/not dry way. Maybe I got a dud somehow, but I am pretty disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall a good product ... with some small flaws The rain jacket does what it says. It is breathable, extremely lightweight, and waterproof. What I wasn't pleased to find (which is my own fault for not paying that close of attention) is that are are no hand pockets to get your hands out of the rain (I live in cold weather). There are no other pockets at all other than the small chest pocket. I was also disappointed to not find any draw strings for the hood, making it about useless when moving quickly or in any kind of wind since it just blows off your head. I'm assuming these missing features were to keep the weight down in a minimalist sort of way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a nice rain jacket but... First off- receiving this rain jacket was a new experience for me. I have never felt such space age fabric like this. Even in the warm climate of Southern California, the fabric feels comfortable and breathable on my skin. However, never in my life have I worn a rain coat, while it was raining, and NOT wanted to put my hands in the pockets of my rain coat. Also, I can see the sleeves getting super annoying. Do you know how crazy annoying it is to have water drip down from your wrists onto your arms? The sleeves cuffs are extremely loose even with the elastic material, there is zero closure. I am absolutely taking this coat to a tailor to have velcro closures installed on the sleeve cuffs prior to my next outing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not waterproof Used this over the course of several day hikes that varied in difficulty and climate conditions, as well as a few runs in the rain. Overall extremely disappointed in this jacket. Absolutely not waterproof. I would say it's water resistant at best. I ran 5 miles in the rain in Tacoma, WA the other day in a steady rain and finished with my torso absolutely soaked after the rain seeped through it. Would recommend for light "misting" conditions and not much else. It hasn't kept me dry on the mountains when I needed it to here in WA state.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A tightly woven plastic bag that wets out in 30 mins. Its a cheap material that was mass produced without checking for breathability and longevity. Initially it was breathable but even the least amount of activity causes sweat moisture to condense inside. Worked for a little while, but very quickly it wets out even in a 10 min shower. There is no way you should take this in a 45 min downpour and activity you want to stay dry afterwards cause its not "waterproof". Failed end of life testing of this jacket by OR in my opinion. Good for wind and some cold weather. I love outdoor research attempt at making a affordable jacket cause not everyone can afford a 300 or 400-dollar shell, but it needs to have basic waterproofness.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge failure I have numerous O R products and am happy with them. This jacket seemed a great light fast item for certain outings. Well, this is the most disappointing product iv'e ever bought. I wore this outside in a light/moderate rain and in minutes the fabric had wetted out and i felt like i had soggy sack hanging on me, i felt clammy, Took all night to dry, total failure . a few days later i did an experiment, i put a towel in a bowl and laid a sheet of toilet paper on the towel ,then turned hood inside out in the bowl so that the hood was a bowl, filled it with water within 15 minutes fabric was wetted out and most surprising was the toilet paper was swelling, getting puffy, and felt damp. I see some other reviewers had similar issues. This will remain strictly a wind breaker, i will never trust this in a real world outing. Huge let down.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lightweight and Quick Drying, but not Waterproof I purchased both the Helium jacket and pants for a 14-day outdoor adventure in the New Mexico mountains. I hiked through every possible weather condition, from wet fog, 40 hours of rain, and afternoon rain. The pants held up great and but the jacket didn't keep me dry. I would say in the first hour of hiking in the rain with the jacket, water soaked through and to my other layers. I would recommend this product if you were looking for something light-weight and in mild rain conditions. If you are expecting large amounts of rain and thunderstorms, this jacket won't hold up. It is unfortunate to find this out in the middle of the trip. The good news is the Helium will dry out quickly and packs nicely into a backpack.
