Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super sweet jacket! Great jacket! The lightweight breathability makes it super comfortable, but it also keeps you super dry. Much better than a basic rain coat, and way nicer to move around in than a stiff shell. I was dry and comfortable hiking for four hours in the rain on a warm day, definitely my new go to layer. The fit is more roomy than I am used to with OR, but I like that. I am 5'11 180 lbs and got a large. I have broad shoulders and don't experience and tightness when stretching. I definitely appreciate the roomy fit/stretchy fabric. It is also super packable, excited to take it more places!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm in love with a raincoat and I don't care who knows This is everything I was searching for in a lightweight no nonsense raincoat for a variety of uses. I plan on using this coat for backpacking, bike packing, backcountry skiing, hiking, foraging and everyday around town wear. So far I've used it for a few rainy hikes, mushroom foraging and super rainy landscaping and it's kept my dry and comfortable for all these activities. The comfort of the fabric and the breathability are the best characteristics of this coat IMO. I also love the lightweight minimalist approach and fit. I'm 5'11" 195#s and the large is perfect. Not too baggy and perfect arm length. I was nervous about the lack of wrist straps but I don't miss them. The wrist openings are very well thought out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waterproof, lightweight and breathable I've worn this jacket a handful of time. In light rain and other windy conditions. It's very light weight. Water rolls right off. It's basic in that it has no pit zips and has just one interior chest pockets, but I wanted just a lightweight shell to wear as a rain jacket, not a winter sports shell. I'm 6'4" tall and 220 pounds and the XL is a perfect size and I can layer underneath. It is not trim fitting. Sleeves are long enough (i'm a 16.5/36 dress shirt).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Minimal Jacket I bought this jacket to use ski touring on more mellow days so I can't speak to the waterproof-ness, but breathability is great! Definitely less sweat build up inside the jacket that with my Gortex gear. Though I probably take it off when running hot just as quickly as I would with any other shell jacket. I usually wear a large but the jacket is cut trim, so I sized up to a XL to make room underneath for layers and allow more freedom of movement across the back and in the shoulders (I'm 6'-3", 220 lbs).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well done! -owned the Motive AS Jacket for a few months -used on a light ski tour, and hikes -I'm 5'9, 165lbs and the Medium fits like OR's regular fit clothes overall with slightly snug armpits - most OR tops are snug at the armpits for me. -simple. No velcro. No unnecessary pockets. The hood has one adjustment cord in the back, and the front uses a set elastic cord. The cuffs only use the elastic cord (no velcro). The hood is large/stretchy enough to fit over a slim climbing helmet, but will not fit over a ski helmet. The whole jacket stretches enough to compensate for a baselayer or a light mid layer. -waterproof out of the box. The jacket shed heavy wet snow and light rain equally well. I use a GORE-TEX jacket for winter skiing and winter climbing, but the Motive AS seems bomber enough to handle anything from light rain to mild shoulder season storms. I purchased the Motive AscentShell to replace a 10 year old Fanatic Jacket (predecessor of the Helium?), which finally blew a zipper. As advertised, OR stands behind their warranty and sent me a credit for well more than the value of the old jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far it is great. Holy smokes, this is a nice jacket. Fits well with just a T-shirt on, or over a few layers and nano puff! Comfortable, allows movement and stylish. I have only walked around the block in a medium/semi cold rain with it, but it seems to shed water as much as you need it to. I just got it 30mins ago, so I can't speak on its use in mid summer/humid wet conditions and breathability, but I mainly bought it for cooler rain days and as a winter shell. Testing out different layer combinations it seems it will do just that. I really hope it holds up cause it's one of the nicest rain jackets I've ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lightweight rain jacket Don't expect this jacket to keep you warm but it will keep you dry. I've been in a few rainy situations so far and it's kept me dry and comfortable. The jacket fits well if you're slim (I'm 6'4" and wear a large). Adding a sweater or bulkier clothing works but you can't bundle up too much without the jacket feeling tight. I have a winter coat I use for cold weather situations so this jacket is good for mild to warm weather. It's a great jacket that will serve me well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted I purchased the AscentShell for a lightweight backpack on Vermont's Long Trail. I poured one day not like my home NW type of wetness, but cold buckets for the whole day. The trail that day took me over several sweat evoking mountains and ridges but my shell kept me dry and breathed beautifully!
