Why change a great functional piece of clothing?I was so excited to see you bring the women's equinox back. The old ones came in a tall length, fit a slightly curvy figure, and, most of all had a wide enough leg & long enough bottom zipper to actually get them off over a size 10 hiking boot. A convertible pant designed for hiking shouldn't require you to take your shoes/boots off. Also a no-zipper drawstring waist is not great for a person with hips & a defined waist on long hikes stepping up & over stuff. These pants & the ferrosi skort were my all time favourites but now both have been changed to remove all the things that were great about them for a tall slightly curvy woman.

Don't buy if you have curvesI never write reviews, but wanted to spare other women with hips, a booty, and a small waist the disappointment. I was really excited when I ordered these pants, my boyfriend has a pair of OR converible pants and loves them. I followed the size guide and ordered according to my largest measurement, my hips. The waistband has zero stretch to it, and I couldn't get the pants past my upper thighs. Sadly, will be returning. I do think they would have fit if I there had been a zipper to help me get the waistband over my hips. OR, please think about including a zipper or making the waistband stretchier to accommodate women with curves!

Needs a redesignI really hope they redesign these, because they really do have a lot going for them aside from the fitment issues. Going by the size chart and reviews, I hedged and ordered sizes 12 and 14 to make sure I got the right fit. Both fit for my hips, but I was swimming in 14. The 12s we're close, but the waist was way too loose even with the drawstring. I had to tie up so much slack that once fastened, the material was all bunched up and billowed out. It showed through a shirt and was generally uncomfortable having that fabric bunched up. Very disappointed these didn't work out. Waist 31, hips 42.5.

Love, but a word about the fitI love these pants, but wanted to comment on the fit. The fit is PERFECT for "my" body type and true to "my" size. I am 5'5" and 125-30lbs, I have a small hip girdle, slim legs and broad shoulders - what some folks refer to as a swimmers body. In other words, my upper body is thicker than my lower body. I read the comments carefully before ordering the Equinox pants and decided to go with my true size , 6. Some brands I'm a size 4, and others I'm a size 8, but none of them fit well overall. The Equinox by OR is hands down the best fitting size 6 I have ever owned; the length is perfect, the fit through the hips is perfect - I'm blown away. It's worth trying different sizes in this pant to find what works for you ;)

Found a winner after a lot of researchI have been researching convertible pants for awhile, wanting longer shorts, not Capri style. The catch is, I was also struggling with finding a pair that didn't feel like they would cut off my thigh at the zipper (I don't have sticks for legs!). I have used these for hiking, gravel biking, and backpacking and have been very pleased with the function, fit, and durability. I would have probably gotten the 6s, but opted for the 8s so that I didn't have too much pressure at my thighs at the zip off area. This means it's just slightly baggy at my waist, but the internal belt cinch helps the pants stay put it seems. They stretch out a little bit with wear, but not drastically so it seems. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Don't look like a dork! Pockets!Love these pants. Fit well, durable, light, fabric feels really nice, the zipoffs are subtle and don't look stupid and aren't uncomfortable. Only two pockets but they are big and secure which is fantastic! No complaints there unlike so many other women's hiking pants. Two little issues I do have to pick are that they tend to stretch out a wee bit with wear (same with all my OR pants, but really no big deal), but on that note, wish the waistband was easier to adjust. There is a drawstring but not super user friendly. Overall though, these rock and they are the perfect summer hiking pant.

Almost there but has fatal flawsI tested these on an 8-day backpack in the Sierra last summer. Like others said, the waste is super tiny. Once it got it over my hips it was fine, but it takes a solid tug. I love that the pants have no zippered fly/ button waste, and only a few pockets; this all cuts down on weight. However, the zipper design is awkward on the zip-off legs - you have to do quite a backward twist to get them zipped back on. Finally, why coat the material with water-repellent stuff? It makes them less breathable and hotter than they need to be. I was disappointing in their breathability.

Amazing material, but bring back the pockets!TL;DR These pants are super durable and amazing for hiking and working outdoors, but the old design with more pockets was better. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is because of the new design. I have a pair that is 5 years old and I absolutely love them. They are my favorite hiking pants! So I got another pair this year because I use them so much (I do field work during the summer). I was disappointed that OR removed the back pockets and side pocket, so now they have 2 rather than 5 pockets. The new zipper design is also a little weird, but looks nice. The good news, and the reason I bought these pants anyways, is that the material simply can't be beat. It is super durable (5+ years of hard use), breathable, quick-dry, and flexible. Also the ankle zips are super nice for trying to get bottom sections off with your hiking boots on. Overall, I still love these pants and will just make do with fewer pockets.
