Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect jacket I absolutely love this jacket! I am usually an XS in everything but go with S for jackets for layering purposes (I am 5'5" and 115lbs with broad shoulders). This fits perfectly without being too bulky. I have an Arcteryx Atom jacket that I compare this one to. The Refuge is warmer and longer so I don't get a draft on the mid-section while wearing it, especially while bike commuting in the winter. The pockets are a glorious size - I can fit a 32oz nalgene *easily* in the pocket. Absolutely love that part because I am one of those squirrel people who keeps a bunch in my pockets. They also sit high enough that while wearing a backpack or harness I can still put my hands in the pockets. Overall it's a great, warm, comfortable jacket and I highly recommend it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Give me warmth and great pockets and I'm a happy gal I use this jacket just about every day! It is amazingly warm for how light it is. Definitely warm enough for a harsh cold day if you layer it with a fleece. Honestly, it's sometimes too warm. I can't wear this if I'm going to be doing anything too active. All in all, a jacket too warm definitely isn't a deal-breaker, I just wish it breathed a little better. Also, OH MY HEAVENS the pockets are the most amazing thing. I can fit 2 entire water bottles just in one pocket! It's mind-blowing. I've never had a jacket with such practical pockets. Well done, OR!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my Favorite Layers I have some similar layers from other brands (specifically the Arc'teryx Atom Hoodie), in like weights, but none have the warmth and fit of the Refuge hooded Jacket. I like the generous cut of it so I can layer under it if necessary, and it's just warm enough for me to wear alone when it's just over freezing and with an underlayer when it's sub-freezing. Add a rain shell and it's ready for wet weather or windy conditions or even colder temperatures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent jacket, although shorter arms than other OR coats I wanted a synthetic layer to use while ice climbing- something that wouldn't loose all its feathers if it got a hole, something that stayed warm when wet and which dried reasonably quickly. This jacket is the perfect weight and type- moderate insulation with a great hood, good pockets and breath-ability. However, the arms were too short for me. This was surprising because I own several other OR coats that fit perfectly. I am 5'8" and buy a medium. I ended up returning this coat and getting the mens medium, which has longer arms. I am extremely happy with that coat and with the customer service. I decided to put this review under the womens coat in case other women might have the same issue with sleeve length. It was only a concern because ice climbing you have your arms over your head and exposed wrists get cold! For hiking or even ski touring it probably wouldn't have been enough to matter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best all purpose jacket ever I got this jacket as I was about to go on the trip of my life to Europe and did not know what the coastal weather would dish out. This jacket saved me from freezing in early spring blustery weather, and is the greatest layering piece I have ever had. Without this jacket I would have been in misery. It is very light, easy to pack. lots of zippered pockets and does not make you look fat, if you are not into the puffed out puffy jacket look! I got a size larger than my actual measurements due to wanting to be able to fit in layers, I love this jacket! My best purchase ever. Delivery was uber fast too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durable but arms a little short My last synthetic from another brand lasted almost 10 years before going flat and losing any warmth, so the bar is high. After about 1 month of use, I think the weight of the jacket is great. It works well as a mid layer and an outer layer. My teething toddler has yet to tear it which is a descent test when I haven't had a whole lot of bushwhacking, rock scrambles to throw at it in the past month of ownership. Where this jacket falls short - my biggest issue w/ OR continues to be inconsistency in sizing. I had a Ferrosi shell in a size small - great arm and torso length, fits and moves w/ me extremely well. I have a Helium II in a size medium - definitely too big, but it works especially when a top layer (ie spring skiing when I just need a shell). Based on the two prior purchases - I went w/ the small. Torso length is good but absolutely tight in the shoulders and the arms are a bit short - at least another 1 inch. I'm 5'7" 132#. Losing a star for the sizing inconsistency which I plead w/ OR to figure out!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again! When I received this Jacket, I was thinking it was not thick enough to keep me warm. Boy was I wrong! I'm working on the 48 4,000' Winter list of NH. This product exceeds expectations. Keeps me toasty and breathes with my exertions. Very happy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing for climbing I used this jacket while rock climbing multi pitches in the winter in Colorado, and it performed amazingly. The material is super abrasion resistant, I even crack climb with it and it's not showing any wear yet even after several multi pitches of shoving arms into the crack. It snowed during a 5 pitch and while I couldn't feel my feet or hands, my body was warm in this thing! I love it!
