DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Product Reviews
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not even slightly waterproof. I've really been let down by Rab. I literally just purchased this jacket, and due to having faith in the brand, didn't try it out prior to heading to the Patagonia's. On my first one day trek, the coat was wet through within an hour of relatively light rain. Infact as soon as it was raining, it was clear it wasn't repelling any water, whereby my girlfriends cheaper branded coat had droplets falling off it. I've now got a 5 day multi-day trek ahead of me with this coat where there is guaranteed to be rain. Its one thing buying a poorly made coat, but it's so much worse when that coat will ruin your trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value wind and waterproof shell This jacket provided ample protection in fairly heavy rain and 40-50mph winds at the top of some of Dartmoor’s tors. After several hours in the rain, there were places that looked like they were beginning to wet out (hood, shoulders etc) but no moisture made it through. Adequately breathable and pit zips provided enough ventilation that it was comfortable to wear even when walking hard and as the weather brightened up. Fit was great for me, with long enough arms and body for a long/tall person. Lightweight, not too crinkly and not all that expensive either. All in all, a very capable shell layer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Andy I bought this jacket after reading reviews and was impressed by the 20,000 hydrostatic head claim. However after its first use in rain (half an hours light but consistent rain) I noticed the left arm of the jacket wetting out. On getting home I turned the jacket inside out and sure enough there were wet patches on the inside of the jacket. The shop I bought it from have exchanged it for another, so hopefully this one will be ok. I love the style/fit, the generous hood and pit zips, its breathability seems ok but I'm hoping its waterproof ability lives up to Rabs claims

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very windproof Had this a few weeks now. Its very windproof but Im not so sure about breathability. I think the pit zips are a great idea and does help. It seems pretty watedproof as well. Although the DWR coating at the end of the sleeves seems to have worn off and water does not bead on it as it did from new. For me the fit is a bit small. Its fine with a tee shirt and fleece but in winter its a bit snug with another layer as well. The zip does get caught from time to time which is a pain to get fee when under my chin. All round its a pretty good product and nice and light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inside the Jacket Downpour [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was fortunate to have a mild rain on the day that the package arrived and was able to try out my new jacket immediately. It lasted less than sixty seconds before wetting out on the shoulders and back. The inside material then did a rather nice job of transferring that wetness to a much larger area. It wicked it across my entire shoulders and back. This might make a nice windbreaker but rain jacket? No! I'll be returning this one. It seems like a nice jacket, just not in the least bit water proof/resistant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rab Eco Downpour Jacket I purchased this jacket for a winter ultra that I took part in on a section of the Pennine way. I have to say I was really impressed with the wind proofing protection of the jacket, most of the run was on very exposed areas for long periods of time with 50mph winds and hail battering me, the jacket stood up Brilliantly to the test. As for the waterproofing side of the jacket, I purposely went out into the Peak District when some heavy rain was forecast, the coat held up pretty well after a day on the hills In torrential rain. When I got back to the car my clothing underneath was a little damp but nothing too disastrous. It stood up pretty well to say that the coat is on the light side. At a 20,000 hydro head rating I found it to be a really good jacket, especially for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice design and fit but not that waterproof User for trekking 3 months in Nepal and had a week of severe rain. It Performed when I needed it to in rain and river crossings, however when crossing under waterfalls it seemed to reach its peak precipitation barrier and I had some moisture get through. In humid conditions it ventilates well with the zips under the armpits and also packs down small. I would say this is more of a water resistant wind breaker than a waterproof, better to invest in the Spark or goretex expensive tiers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice, but fits a little small This is a very nice jacket - simple, lightweight and effective. Contrary to other reviewers though I found it fits a bit small. I am a size S for jackets from every other brand I've tried (Patagonia, Craghoppers, Endura, Regatta) but from Rab, whilst it technically fits, it's marginal and wearing this jacket over an insulated layer, fleece and t-shirt is uncomfortably tight. Fortunately size M fits me quite well, save for being a bit long in the sleeve.
