Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, waterproof and looks the part. Working outdoors and usually in rain, this jacket offers REAL rain protection. I've worn it in heavy rain for roughly and hour-and-a-half four separate times and it's stayed waterproof -so far. Warmth is the key though, and the jacket is as good as a sleeping bag for keeping body heat in and the cold out. The Valiance can, if anything, be too warm if you're exerting over a period of time in anything over 12C but in winter conditions, with wind and hail it's cosier than anything I've worn before. Also, as an unintended consequence, I've never had so many positive comments on how good a jacket looks - this one shouts quality from every seam.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of Both Got this for the Highlands in winter. I wanted a down jacket without too much bulk which was also windproof and waterproof. This narrowed the choice somewhat. The Valiance fit the bill. Best winter coat I've ever owned. The fabric seems to be quite tough. Reasonably breathable for a down jacket with the Pertex shield. Pockets nice and roomy and behind the insulation. Construction is with boxed compartments so uniform down coverage. Synthetic fill to hood and cuffs works well. Hood is really good, properly helmet compatible. Drawcord forms a good snow skirt. Cut to rear is lower and allows for an insulated and toasty behind. Lovely.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So good yet so annoying The comfort of this jacket is absolutely incredible. I use this for everything in the winter from hiking to climbing. There are however two weaknesses for day to day use which prevent this from being my absolute favourite piece. 1) The inside liner of the main pockets is uninsulated. Each time you open the pockets all the hot air rushes out and your hands will still be cold. Rab please line the pockets on this coat with either microfleece or as you have done on the new ZEPTON. 2) Where the jacket hits the hip. Water runs straight off the jacket and on to your trousers. This means if you are walking in town your thighs are soaked. Please could there be an option to make a longer version of this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The 1st amazing jacket I've owned I live in the Midwest and decided to finally buy a top quality jacket to make my winters less depressing. I needed something for everyday use and occasional outdoor activities in the winter, and my friend recommended Rab. This jacket feels instantly warm and cozy!! It has great performance features, but has a casual look which like. Hands down the best jacket I have ever had! I'm 5'8'' with a slim frame and I got a small. I wish the waist was just a tiny bit looser and longer, but everything else fits perfectly. I usually have a hard time finding the perfect fit anyways.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Valiance Indeed I have had a Valiance for over 1 yr now. One of the best Jackets out there for the money, though they have gone up since I bought mine. Too warm for the UK most of the time unless you really feel the cold. So far been completely waterproof in some very heavy rain both on hill and in monsoon style conditions. Never been cold in jacket. Needs a phone pocket on the front and a slight adjustment on the side pockets with more of a drop in material to prevent things falling out of pockets unless zipped to the top. Otherwise an extremely good jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far I love it. So far I love it. I’m not your typical customer, I’m retired, not into cold weather activities, live in NY, but I love to play golf. I have been looking for a jacket that is waterproof and down-filled to allow for play in lousy NY winter weather (of course, not in the snow). I was a bit concerned because it did pinch a bit under the arms, but I tried it on the course, and my swing was not impinged upon. The pinch is the reason I believe it fits a bit small. My chest size is 44 so I went for the XL, still the pinch. Hopefully the jacket will prove to be waterproof, as of right now hasn’t been checked out. I have all faith that warmth will not be a factor, and I have to believe that rain won’t be either. Well worth the cost if I stay dry, looks good too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astonishing By a country mile, and a big one at that, the warmest jacket I've ever had. I'd always avoided down jackets that we're shower proof, or water resistant, they're just not suited to the UK climate. So the Valiance was a perfect fit...in more way than one. Just finished an 18 mile hike, 35mph ENE wind blowing wet snow in my face, -9 windchill and all I wore was a merino wool base layer and the Valiance (+ a beanie) I was toasty warm, never cold and the hood adjustments worked really well. I'm not promoting such a simple layering system, but it's all I needed. I had other layers in my pack but didn't need them. The jacket performed brilliantly. I''m 6'3" the length and sleeves are just long enough. Only one caution, wear only when it's very, very cold. 10:10.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I really like everything about this jacket but if I were to buy again I would want a little more. Two inner chest pockets would rather than one. The handwarmer pockets should have the back panel fleece lined as everything you open the pocket to get something out you lose heat. I'd also like the jacket to be a little longer (similar to the women's parka) so my trousers don't get wet on my commute to work in the rainy city I live in. I use this jacket for daily commute and hiking but it's still short for hiking.
