Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First pair of Salewa's. I have approach shoes and boots from Scarpa, plus tele boots, and they are really good products. I have had several pairs of the Zen approach shoe, very solid & long lasting. This shoe is, IMO, a better hiking shoe. The sole is more versatile and provides better grip on more diverse surfaces and the goretex is helpful in wetter environments. However, Salewa's "fit system" (which I'm generally skeptical of ...) does certainly seem to work. These shoes fit like the proverbial glove, they are very comfortable and I wear them almost daily, even in the winter here in New Hampshire. If you'd not tried Salewa's, this would be the product to try. It is very stable, torsionally rigid, and comfortable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too tight, too heavy [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought these to replace my other pair of Salewa shoes that I use at work as a landscape contractor. I like this brand since they run narrow and fit my narrow feet. I ordered 10's like my old pair but once I out in my orthotics, there was no room left for my feet. I could have tried bumping up a size but they were also a good bit heavier than my old pair. I suspect most of the weight comes from the super rugged sole which also surrounds the entire bottom inch of the shoe. I'm not hiking in these just walking around in the dirt and grass so I don't need something this heavy duty. Love the color scheme though, which is what drew me to the show in the first place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well in winter urban conditions. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was in the market for a light weight boot with minimal insulation and good grip for work during the winter months in the upper Midwest. I have been wearing these boots for several weeks. I have put thousands of steps on these, mainly for walking on ice/snow covered sidewalks, streets and yards. The boots are durable, stable, have amazing grip, and perform well in winter conditions. However, they are snug, especially in the toe area. I wear a size 13, and these are the tightest size 13's I have ever owned of any brand. But, I can still double up on socks if they are thin. I don't exactly use these for it's intended purpose, but I'm confidant they will help me get through this winter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2020 Mountain Trainer model was better Long time Salewa fan here. Compared to the Mountain Trainer I bought in 2020, this years model gets 3 stars. The laces are way too slippery and the construction and holes for the laces are a step back in practical use. On the bright side: it’s a pair of Salewa’s, and they fit my feet perfectly. Berg heil!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really comfortable [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great , comfortable pair of all arounders . I have older version and I love them . They are tested and used at one of the European mountain rescue services . We put them thru a real test in all conditions and by far my most favourite brand

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Problem Feet! But buy large I have arthritis in my feet and the MTN TRAINER 2 GTX SHOES are great for stabilizing my joints while I walk. I love how stiff and solid these shoes are. So far I have used them around my neighborhood for 3-4 mile walks and hope to take them on some longer off road hikes soon. One thing, buyer beware: they run EXTREMELY small and narrow. I normally wear a women’s 8/ men’s 7 and had to buy these in a men’s 8.5. Once I got the right size I am very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Watch out - narrow european sizing [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was looking for a water proof light weight hiker - and ordered this in my usual size - It came back WAY to small - I went up a half size and tried again - the cut does not fit my feet well (which are used to a wider US style toe box). I suggest that you avoid these unless you have a narrow foot (in the fore-foot esp.).
