Product Reviews
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok but the older Guide Shorts were so much better These shorts are just ok. They are a bit of a disappointment compared to earlier versions of these shorts. The material is a little thicker, which I can get used to but will not be as comfortable in the warm and humid weather here in the Low Country of SC. I really liked the pocket location and design of the previous version - one zippered on the left thigh and the unzippered right thigh. The current zippered, right-only pocket lies more on the top of your leg than the side. I also felt the belt loops on the previous version were more comfortable. Simms shorts were my every day wear, but these might only make it into the rotation when I need to do laundry, which is a huge dissapointment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Changed cut of shorts, fit poorly Cut has been changed & now fits terrible for me. I have used these shorts & others in size Med for years with no problems but these have a different cut & fit terrible in the middle of short around crotch & behind area, super tight & restricted. Waist fits, legs fit but middle area very tight to where I cannot wear. I went by size chart & history of owning same shorts, I wear a size 33-34 so I am listed as a Med. Anyways the new cut I got fits poorly & is super uncomfortable. I am worried if I go to L then waist will not fit properly, very disappointed as I loved same shorts previously.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New SIMM’s Guide Shorts I have been basically living in the Simms guide shorts for the past 4 years and own 4 pair, all super comfortable and very durable. Ordered a new pair for an upcoming trip and the shorts appear to have been redesigned and some of my favorite features are now gone including the internal cell phone pocket and one of the front pockets which really change the functionality of the shorts for me. The fit is also a bit different and tighter in the thighs making them less comfortable. The material also seems a bit thicker which should be a plus for durability. Loved the previous version, the new version not quite as special. 5 stars for the old version, 3 for the redesign. Wearing the older version as I type this…

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Restricting cut [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These appear to be well made and have nice features but the cut is very odd. They fit fine around the waist and the overall length is good but the crotch is way too restrictive. I couldn’t even walk up a flight of stairs without stressing the fabric. Unfortunately I had to return them and ended up getting some convertible Columbia pants instead that fit great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Upgrade made this short horrible Simms took a great short and made it relatively useless other than covering up your crotch. The old guide short had 2 real cargo pockets. The new ones have one cargo pocket, but it’s in front so whatever is in that pocket bangs one your knee. So dumb... I wish I could send em back and get my money back. Simms, let me know when you when you fix this stupid ‘upgrade’ to one of the best shorts ever made.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Fit These shorts fit terrible and are too long and uncomfortable. The waist has some kind of 1950s Sansibelt waistline that is over designed and uncomfortable and I have a 33 waist. I feel like I have an elastic waist band grabbing me. If you are going to call a pair of shorts guide shorts, at least make them comfortable and loose fitting. I would not buy these again. I was very disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I’m wearing them, but I’ve had better from Simms. The fit and function isn’t as good as previous shorts I’ve had from Simms, but they get the job done. They do run small, so I had to send back my normal size and get the next one up. There is a waste adjustment (elastic kind of thing) that I don’t recall being in the description for the shorts. They are found on the both hips and I assume they are for comfort to allow the waste to expand. The problem is that I’m right between a L and XL in these and so it doesn’t help. I think this causes my normal belts to cause weird bunching in the waste line when worn too. So, I had to go get wider belts than I have used before and that seems to prevent it. The pocket placement is less than desirable as they are on the front of the thigh instead of on the side of the leg. When sitting down, your phone, wallet, or anything else you have is a huge bulge sitting on top of your leg. They look good, but the fit and function could have been better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great short, strange fit. Great short, but weird size (currently a 34-35 in. waist - 6'2 195 lb.) I ordered a Large and it really felt like these were XXL ... I had at least 4 inches when I pulled them out from my belly. I ordered the Medium, and these were tight-ish. Unfortunately couldn't find one that fit, but the shorts themselves are lovely.
