Product Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun top, decorative hood [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This hoodie is attractive and comfortable for daily use. It fills a space between not too casual and not too dressed up, making it a versatile top (especially when you take into account that its merino wool!) Its pretty soft and quite warm while still being breathable enough so that you aren't overheating. If you've got super long arms the sleeves may be a bit shortish - I don't so they were good for me. And the hood....definitely decorative! It's pretty small and if you have the red and black one like me, you feel a little like spiderman. #SmartWoolLove

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect fall winter spring product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] long enough sleeves, weight is perfect for me indoors as well as out. hood adds surprising amount of warmth on windy days-enough to offset the need for a hooded jacket rather than a regular jacket, Hood lays flat enough that it is not noticeable under my wool shirts. But if you need it the hood is there. long length is appreciated as well as quality workmanship. John

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome baselayer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great wool product, feels nice on skin, excellent base layer, breaths well, absorbs moisture well, doesn't smell after 2 weeks of everyday wearing. Has a massive temperature range. God bless Merino sheep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from +1 middle layer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Living in climate with non defined seasons, wool provides a middle ground based on warmth and air flow. So I ordered 1 size up from exact size to make it a middle layer. #sweepstakes

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but beware Excellent base layer. Fits well, is soft, and keeps you warm under a rain jacket. My only complaint is the stitching on the cuff started coming apart after ONE gentle cycle wash. I don't think it will hold up long term, sadly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Snug and warm I bought the black/gray hoody after several years of having a similar, but regular fit and lighter weight (150?) hoody from Smartwool. I thought I would love this new 250 hoody even more, but sadly I don't. Don't get me wrong, it's soft and very warm (maybe too warm?), but the slim fit just isn't for me, and that's why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I wear a size L in just about every brand, but I wish I would have ordered a XL. I'm 6'2", 215 lbs athletic frame, so I don't recommend this shirt for someone with my build unless you like your clothes quite snug and on the short side. By short, I mean when you raise your arms the base of the shirt will go above your waist line. I wish Smartwool made this hoody in the 150 wt merino and regular fit; I'd buy it in a heartbeat. To this day, I still wear my original hoody (going on about 8 years now) more than the new one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Scratchy to start but comfy now [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Initially I was not impressed with this top, it felt really itchy and I couldn't wear it for long. But after a few uses and washing it once, it isn't as scratchy now. I feel like it has a fantastic amount of stretch and feels more similar to the sweaters that Smartwool has than the baselayers. Overall its very soft and comfy now. The hood fits well under a biking helmet. I generally wear a medium in Smartwool and feel this is right on the money for sizing (40" chest, athletic build.). #SmartwoolLove

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tall People Rejoice I'm 6'4'' tall, long arms, and slim in the body. I struggle to find garments that are long enough in the sleeves and tall enough in the body, but aren't too baggy in the chest and stomach. This piece has perfect length in the arms and a torso that is long enough you wont be getting a cold draft up your back. It comes down to my hips and as a tall person, I love that. It's a slim fit so it's not baggy around my chest and stomach, so the fabric stays close to your body. If you are bigger in the chest I don't think it will be constricting. Fits very true to size and the fabric is soft and flexible. Wore it as a base layer skiing and snowshoeing in the PNW and kept me warm and dry. Can't speak for durability as its fairly new to me, but everything about this piece is perfect. Hood fits over a hat and under a helmet. Fabric feels amazing, soft and smooth. Worth every penny.
